£2 million funding for England's seafood sector
An extra £2 million of funding has been made available to support the sustainability, productivity and resilience of England’s thriving seafood sector through the reopening of the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FaSS).
Administered by Marine Management Organisation (MMO) on behalf of Defra, the scheme will deliver investment to support commercial and recreational fishers, and the aquaculture and processing sectors in a variety of areas. These include the health and safety of fishing crews, improving the value and quality of fisheries products, modifications to improve the energy efficiency of vessels, efforts to mitigate climate change, and innovations to support the longevity and diversification of the seafood sector.

This collaboration enhances the Tech South West network with a service designed for ambitious, innovation-focused small to medium-sized companies, including Innovate UK grant winners.

Plymouth Science Park gives hands-on experience of new Stratasys Polyjet and FDM machines
Plymouth Science Park is the largest centre for science and technology in its region, and it has just made a significant investment in two new Stratasys additive manufacturing machines, the Stratasys F770 and J55.
The science park has been running for over 25 years, expanding over time to fill 25 acres. It is home to a selection of large global businesses, local start-ups and academics. One of the main attractions of the location is the exchange of knowledge the park offers.
Business demand survey for hotel usage in Plymouth
Destination Plymouth is undertaking a city-wide survey to establish the requirements that businesses have for using hotels for business use. They are keen to understand the volume of rooms needed as well as identify peak seasons and booking challenges. Hotel use may not be solely for rooms, but also includes conference facilities, event spaces and meeting rooms.

DCMS Create Growth Programme Competition 3
UK registered micro, small and medium enterprises in the creative sector can apply for funding of between £10,000 and £30,000 for innovation projects to grow their business. This funding is from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).

Maritime Accelerator 2024 is now open
The Connected Places Catapult is looking for a cohort of up to 8 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enter its Maritime Accelerator. This is a 5-month programme to nurture SMEs with pioneering solutions applicable to the maritime industry.
The programme gives participants the opportunity to access between £10,000 and £20,000 of programme funding to deliver a trial of their solution with one of the programme partners.
Women in Innovation Award 2024/25
Women within UK registered micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can apply for a share of up to £4 million to develop their exciting and innovative ideas. The £75,000 grant also includes bespoke business support.

Ocean Tech Expo 2024 - 26-27 June
The Ocean Tech Expo will build on the success of three previous events and will showcase leading technical capability and near market innovation capable of decarbonising and increasing productivity across a range of offshore activity.
The event will feature 60+ speakers across 2 days and will focus on applications to the most relevant market opportunities for the SW region demonstrating technologies with cross cutting applications across markets including: offshore wind and renewables, defence, aquaculture and fishing and the decarbonisation of the wider maritime sector.

Great South West Regional Roadshow

There will also be Military and Emergency Villages and a Veteran’s Village, sponsored by Royal British Legion, and live music and a free outdoor music concert sponsored by C & G Catering.
