On Course South West to offer Apprenticeships
On Course South West, Plymouth City Council’s Adult Learning provider is delighted to announce that following a successful application to the Apprenticeship Provider and Assessment Register, the local authority will commence delivering apprenticeships.
The training and skills landscape is changing and as a key employer in the city they believe they have the critical skills needed to address this.
Their initial focus will be on youth work, early years and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Run over 12 weeks, the course includes online and face-to-face sessions, 1-to-1 mentoring and peer networking. With just one session a week, it is designed to fit around existing work and personal commitments.
DCMS Create Growth Programme Competition 3
UK registered micro, small and medium enterprises in the creative sector can apply for funding of between £10,000 and £30,000 for innovation projects to grow their business. This funding is from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).

UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £8 million for innovative smart shipping technologies for maritime decarbonisation. This funding is from the Department for Transport (DfT).

Ocean Tech Expo 2024 - 26-27 June
The Ocean Tech Expo will build on the success of three previous events and will showcase leading technical capability and near market innovation capable of decarbonising and increasing productivity across a range of offshore activity.
The event will feature 60+ speakers across 2 days and will focus on applications to the most relevant market opportunities for the SW region demonstrating technologies with cross cutting applications across markets including: offshore wind and renewables, defence, aquaculture and fishing and the decarbonisation of the wider maritime sector.
Ocean Tech Expo is brought to you by Maritime UK SW, a not for profit partnership of business, research and government dedicated to driving forward sustainable growth in the SW ocean economy. All proceeds from the event will be reinvested into the sector.
Building Plymouth Hosting Meet The City Buyer Event
Building Plymouth, the Council-led sector skills partnership with construction and built environment is hosting the next Meet the City Buyers event at the University of Plymouth on Thursday 6 June.
The city’s key clients including Babcock, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Plymouth City Council, University of Plymouth and Plymouth Community Homes will be sharing the latest news about their capital programmes leading up to 2030.
Members of the local construction community are invited to attend this morning event free of charge to hear directly from these clients as well as to enjoy informal networking as part of a sponsored session by First Thursday Club.
Great South West Regional Roadshow
As part of the Great South West’s work to promote the region and make the case at the national level, they are rolling out a series of regional roadshows this year across the GSW area with one in each of the four constituent geographies. These are being jointly curated with Chambers of Commerce in each patch to improve consistency in messaging across the business community.
Devon will host the first roadshow and it will be taking place on Wednesday 12 June at 8.30am at the Redcliffe Hotel in Paignton.

Flavour Fest to celebrate its 20th anniversary
The South West's largest free culinary event, Flavour Fest, is set to celebrate 20 years with an even bigger and better offering.
The festival, which takes place on 31 May to 2 June and organised by Plymouth City Centre Company, will showcase over 80 traders, a demonstration stage hosted by award-winning chef Peter Gorton and introduce a new entertainment zone with live music in partnership with The Treasury. Also new for this year is The Bazaar's culturally diverse marketplace and free activities hosted in House of Fraser.
