Following the highly successful 2021 and 2022 R&D Solutions Fund, the University of Plymouth Research & Innovation Directorate are delighted to announce that Call 6 of the R&D Solutions Fund is now open.
Awards of up to £20,000 are available to support joint R&D projects, which includes access to specialist technical support, facilities, and equipment; initial research activities, feasibility studies or implementation; and academic and business partner research time.

On Wednesday 8 March the ground-breaking Offshore Wind Plan was launched at the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s Operations & Maintenance Centre of Excellence in Grimsby. The plan makes a series of recommendations for how the maritime sector, the offshore wind sector, and governments can work together to deliver maximum economic benefit from the growth of offshore wind across the maritime supply chain in sectors like ports, shipbuilding, crewing and professional services.
The launch event saw the maritime and renewables industry come together to identify priority areas for collaboration to ensure the rapid growth in offshore wind is delivering good jobs and economic growth across the UK.
Connect Plymouth’s vision is to change the way people move around the city. There are three new components which will increase sustainable travel options and improve access across Plymouth.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched two new security tools aimed at small and medium-sized businesses that lack the resources to address cyber issues. The Cyber Action Plan and Check Your Cyber Security tools form part of the latest phase of the NCSC's long-running Cyber Aware campaign. The aim is to raise awareness of cybersecurity issues among micro businesses and sole traders.
Internships Work is a new project which will enable 4,500 young adults, aged 16-25 with additional needs, to benefit from a supported internship per year by 2025.
Research by Barclays has revealed that 28% of people in the UK have started a new small business or found a way to supplement their income since March 2020. The majority (86%) of those who started a new venture are still running their small business, with 34% saying it has become their main source of income. Popular start-ups included cleaning, online tutoring, translation services, baking, cat-sitting, jewellery making and online fitness classes.
Businesses and local communities will be helped to take control of empty shops on high streets, as part of plans to revitalise high streets and tackle anti-social behaviour.
Local authorities will receive new powers through High Street Rental Auctions to take control of empty buildings, giving communities and local businesses the opportunity to bid for the chance to rent shops. A new £2.5 million High Street Accelerator programme will also be introduced to incentivise local businesses and communities to develop a long-term vision for revitalising high streets.
V2X Innovation Programme
UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £9.4 million. This is for small scale demonstrations of novel Vehicle to everything (V2X) energy technology providing storage and flexible services under Phase 2 of the V2X Innovation Programme.
The Faraday Battery Challenge: UKBIC SME Credits Competition
Apply now to be part of the Faraday Battery Challenge Investment Readiness Programme for 2023. Innovate UK KTN will select up to 15 SMEs to join the programme to accelerate their investment journey.
Resource efficiency for materials and manufacturing

Mobility Pathfinder 2023

Funded by the UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge, part of Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, Design Age Institute’s Mobility Pathfinder Innovation Programme invites innovators, businesses and entrepreneurs from across the UK to propose personal mobility solutions at ideation stage or beyond that are commercially viable, demonstrate creativity and innovation, and can be supported towards market by investment in good design.
UK Games Fund
UKGF is run by UK Games Talent and Finance Community Interest Company. UKGTF is a non-profit organisation with the remit to support the UK’s early stage games development and digital interactive business and creative ecosystem in terms of both companies and individuals.
£2m Sky Zero Footprint Fund Opens for 2023
Established by Sky as part of its campaign to be net zero carbon by 2030, the Sky Zero Footprint Fund will support brands that are committed to driving positive behavioural change and tangible impact towards a more sustainable future.
Open to UK media agencies, creative agencies and brands, the £2 million Fund will support businesses to accelerate and amplify their initiatives to change the world for the better through the influence of TV and advertising.
Announcing the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund, Round 2 - Strands 1 & 2
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, supported by Innovate UK and Innovate UK KTN, have launched round 2 of the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF).
Strands 1 & 2 are aimed at the development and deployment of low carbon hydrogen production. These competitions aim to develop a diverse and secure hydrogen economy fit for meeting the UK’s ambition of up to 10GW low carbon hydrogen production by 2030.
