Led by Plymouth City Council, Skills Launchpad Plymouth has unveiled a new online Employer Hub designed to bring together localised solutions to help address recruitment, employment, workforce skills and training challenges.
Aimed at helping local small to medium sized companies as well as offering additional support for larger businesses, the Employer Hub provides advice, guidance, and access to information setting out clear options to help employers better navigate the complex skills, training and employment landscape.
During the launch event held at Boringdon Park Golf Club on 28 February, leading business leaders firmly endorsed the value and benefits of the new Employer Hub service.
The Employer Hub is funded by the Interreg FCE C-Care project, delivered by The Plymouth Charter supporting Skills Launchpad Plymouth.

Plymouth City Council has set a balanced budget for 2023/24 after implementing an urgent plan to close a massive £37.6m gap in resources.
The full Council agreed a £218.4m million revenue budget for deliver more than 300 day-to-day Council services over the next year and a £591.5m five-year capital programme that invests in improving Plymouth’s transport network, creating jobs, providing affordable homes, improving health and education and tackling climate change.
One of Plymouth’s biggest ever transport improvement schemes marked its most significant milestone this week, with the opening of the eagerly-awaited Platinum Parkway – the brand new link between the Forder Valley and Derriford.
The new road bridge connecting the Forder Valley Road/Novorossiysk Road junction and William Prance Road provides a much-needed alternative route between the A38 and the north of the city, avoiding the often heavily congested Manadon Roundabout and the A386 Tavistock Road through Crownhill.

The Waterfront Business Improvement District (BID) has been in operation since April 2012 and is delivered through Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation.
The BID encompasses more than 960 businesses (approximately 560 Voting Levy Payers and 400 Basic Level Businesses) across four square miles of the Plymouth Waterfront.
BID Levy paying businesses with a Business Rateable Value of over £7,000 within the geographical area currently pay 1.7% Levy based on their rateable value.
Plymouth Waterfront businesses voted in favour to renew the BID for a further five years in April 2022 and the BID will operate until the end of March 2027. Our projects outlined in the current Business Plan for Waterfront BID3 are focused around four key themes: Business Voice, Environmental Excellence, Vibrant Tourist Attraction, Transformational – Creating The Waterfront Of Tomorrow, Today.

Launch of New Local Electric Vehicle Capability Fund
The Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund supports local authorities in England to plan and deliver chargepoint infrastructure for residents without off-street parking.
The fund comprises of capability funding to ensure that local authorities have the staff and capability to plan and deliver chargepoint infrastructure, and capital funding to support chargepoint delivery.
This current application round will provide a total of £8 million capability funding.
Completed forms must be emailed to the LEVI support body by the deadline of 10 March 2023.
Semiconductor Manufacturing Scale-up - IUK Launches Feasibility Competition
The aim of this Innovate UK (IUK) competition is to enable UK businesses in the semiconductor supply chain to develop their manufacturing capability. This will be achieved by building resilience for the key area of enabling technologies.
Up to £1.5 million has been allocated to fund feasibility study projects. Each project’s total costs must not exceed £150,000.
The deadline for applications is 29 March 2023.
Innovate UK Launches Transformative Technologies Competition
The aim of this Innovate UK (IUK) competition is to provide a package of targeted support to enable ambitious UK micro and small businesses in transformative technologies to reach their potential.
IUK has allocated up to £20 million to fund innovation projects in this competition. Each eligible business can apply for a grant of between £25,000 and £50,000. In addition to the grant support, applicants will be offered tailored business support delivered by Innovate UK EDGE.
The deadline for applications is 29 March 2023.
Innovate UK Launches UK Battery Industrialisation Centre SME Credit Competition
Through this competition, Innovate UK (IUK) will support research and development for the scale-up of battery technologies within the UK, conducted by small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It will support SMEs to access the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) and demonstrate technologies at suitable scales to customers.
Up to £1.5 million has been allocated to fund experimental development projects in this competition. Each project’s total costs must be between £100,000 and £1.1 million.
The deadline for applications is 4 April 2023.
