Get your FREE symptom-free COVID test

Community Testing site

Thousands of symptom-free home testing kits have been handed out at our new pop-up stand in Plymouth city centre.

As one in three people with Coronavirus do not display any symptoms, the Government has announced that everyone who is going to work, or regularly going out and about, should take a rapid, lateral flow test twice a week. The tests are for people who are not displaying any symptoms of COVID-19.

To make it as easy as possible for local people to access these tests, there are a number of locations in Plymouth that tests can be conducted under supervision or collected to be taken home and carried out there.

  • We have set up a temporary stall at the Place de Brest, near Barclays Bank. Open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, offering assisted testing, but also handing out home testing kits.
  • FREE, rapid lateral flow COVID-19 tests are also available through the mobile testing van which visits locations around the city each week. Test numbers are limited each day. Visit our book a lateral flow test page to book your test or for further information.
  • Other locations to collect the home tests are available here
  • For people who are unable to access tests through their employer, one of the local test collection or supervised sites, you can order a box of home tests online or through 119, which will be delivered to your home.

Catch-up with our COVID vaccine Q and A

COVID vaccien Q&A

A panel of NHS and Council health and care experts from across Plymouth chaired an online question and answer session to help provide reassurance and the facts around the Coronavirus vaccine.

They discussed issues such as the concerns around Astra Zeneca, the rollout of Moderna, side effects and myths around fertility.

If you missed the event, you can watch it online.

Primary admissions 2021

Group Of Children Happy

Thousands of Plymouth children found out today which primary school they will be going to in September.

Emails confirming school places for September 2021 were sent earlier today and parents now have two weeks to respond to the offer of the school place.

For those that applied for their place online, the easiest way to respond is through your online account. If you don’t make a response, the allocated place could be withdrawn and offered to someone else.

Unfortunately it is not always possible to offer your child a place at your preferred school, so if you are unhappy about the school place your child has been allocated please contact us.

You can find full details of admissions guidance and appeals information on our website.

Moving day for a colony of bees

Image of man working with bees

Late last year, teams working near Morlaix Drive came across a colony of bees in an old, decayed tree.

Native bees are really important to the environment, so last week we staged an operation to move the native colony, nest and all, from their old home near the hospital, just a few miles down the road to Poole Farm.

The bees will be used to teach and inspire children about pollination and the importance of wildlife.

We've made a short film about how the move was done.

Got questions about recycling?

Image of nappies

We've started a series of blogs to clear up some confusion about what can and can't be recycled here in Plymouth.

Recycling is important and we all want to play our part.

Did you know that including items that can’t be recycled in your household collection can contaminate a whole lorry’s full of otherwise good recycling?

The blogs are highlighting the top culprits that our team see far too regularly at the Materials Recycling Facility.
