355 small businesses in Plymouth, including local charities, B&Bs, nurseries and fishers, have been given a much-needed lifeline with funding from the Discretionary Grant Fund.
As part of the Plymouth City Council’s acute response for Resurgam, the city’s economic recovery plan, the grants were all allocated and paid out within a month, with the final payments being made this week. Thanks to the quick work of the Council almost 1,700 jobs have been protected through this grant scheme.

Working with our partners Destination Plymouth, Plymouth City Centre Company and Plymouth Waterfront Partnership we’ve created this toolkit to help you reopen your business safely, providing you with advice and guidance and practical tools that can be used as you welcome customers back to your premises.
This toolkit has been produced with funding from the Reopening High Street Fund, funded by HM Government and the European Regional Development Fund.
The toolkit includes a request form for a free signage pack which includes floor stickers, window decals and posters to encourage people to follow social distancing guidelines for high street shops, attractions and leisure businesses.

SMEs in Devon can receive 75% refund of costs of engaging a Consultant to support business innovation work within the marine sector. The Marine Business Technology Centre (MBTC) project is offering grants to eligible businesses with suitable projects. Closing date for Grant applications is 14 August.

Organisations in certain sectors should collect details and maintain records of staff, customers and visitors on their premises to support NHS Test and Trace.
The easing of social and economic lockdown measures following the COVID-19 outbreak is being supported by NHS Test and Trace. You should assist this service by keeping a temporary record of your customers and visitors for 21 days, in a way that is manageable for your organisation, and assist NHS Test and Trace with requests for that data if needed. This could help contain clusters or outbreaks.

Innovation Challenge for BAME Entrepreneurs
The MSDUK Innovation Challenge offers founders and established Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) entrepreneurs with an opportunity to obtain business funding and support.

Screwfix Foundation Re-opens for Applications
The Screwfix Foundation, a registered charity, was created by trade retailers Screwfix in 2013. After being closed for nearly three months, the Foundation is now open for applications from registered charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK.
Applications can be made at any time and are reviewed on a quarterly basis. The next review will be in August 2020.

Launch of Final Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI2) Calls for Proposals
The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) has launched its final Calls for Proposals under the IMI2 programme, with topics on tackling cancer through artificial intelligence, antimicrobial resistance, neurodegenerative diseases, rare disease diagnosis, the return of clinical trial data to participants, and patient adherence.
The submission deadline (for full proposals for IMI2 - Call 22, and short proposals for IMI2 - Call 23) is 29 September 2020.
