Plymouth Waterfront’s Business Improvement District (BID) has won a national Special Recognition Award from British BIDs. The special recognition was awarded to the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership for its efforts in reducing single-use plastics in partnership with local businesses and organisations including Environment Plymouth, Plymouth City Council, the National Marine Aquarium, the University of Plymouth and others during 2018. Plymouth’s maritime business park, Turnchapel Wharf, has opened five new marine enterprise units providing workshop and office space for a variety of local companies. Under the ownership of Yacht Havens Group since 2014, Turnchapel Wharf has been transformed from an ex-Ministry of Defence site into a thriving waterfront business hub. To find out more click here

12 Attack class submarines are to be designed and built for the Australian Navy. Babcock's role is expected to be worth around £1billion over the lifetime of the programme. Work on the design will begin immediately. While the preliminary design phase of the weapons system will commence in Bristol, this work will initiate a transfer of skills and intellectual property to Babcock's Australian business, which will act as the Engineering Design Authority for the project. The ‘Apprenticeship Champion’ award was presented to BluescreenIT for their creative marketing contribution to the industry recognised #CertifiedApprentice national apprenticeship campaign, which received over 60,000 social media views.
