Plymouth Has Become the First UK City to Join the Fab City Network

Fab City

The University of Plymouth, Plymouth College of Art, Plymouth City Council and the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO) have agreed to commit efforts and resources towards producing all the energy, food and products they consume. They also intend to deploy spiral economy strategies for the relocalisation of production, and the technological empowerment of citizens. To find out more click here


Public Plaza to be Named after One of the Greatest Engineers

Plymouth’s train travellers will be walking out of the station onto Brunel Plaza. The multi-million regeneration scheme proposed for the area around the station will be named after the great engineer, who was not only the chief engineer for the Great Western Railway, but also built the iconic Albert Bridge over the Tamar and Plymouth’s Millbay Docks. To find out more click here

Plymouth to Work with Music Venue Trust to Support Grassroots Music

Following consultation with venues, promoters and musicians involved in the local music industry, the Council has teamed up with the Music Venue Trust to discuss and identify the problems faced in Plymouth and how to tackle them to support a thriving local music scene. To find out more click here


Box-Supported Project Wins Two National Awards

Box

A community project which has been supported by The Box has won two national awards. ‘Maker Memories’ has been collecting stories and memories to help preserve the social history of Maker Camp on the Rame Peninsula. It’s already engaged with more than 16,000 people through a series of events and displays and reached nearly 250,000 people online. To find out more click here


Oceansgate Wins Regeneration Project of the Year Award

The Oceansgate team attended the Royal Institute of Surveyors Regional Awards in June, and were pleasantly surprised to be awarded Regeneration Project of the Year. This award honoured the exceptional improvements to urban, rural or coastal areas. The judges were looking for evidence to show that the scheme conserved or improved the built or natural environment in a way that contributed to the viability of the area, which they deemed Oceansgate has. The Judges said ‘Oceansgate is the first phase in an imaginative and ambitious regeneration of former MoD land’. They have now been entered into the national awards and will find out the results in October. To find out more click here

Building Plymouth Win at the South West Built Environment Awards 2019

Building Awards

Celebrating regional excellence and best practice in construction, Building Plymouth won the ‘Image of Construction’ Award, at the South West Built Environment Awards held in Bristol on Friday 14 June 2019. Emma Hewitt and Edward Coley proudly accepted the Award on behalf of the Building Plymouth partnership. Building Plymouth will now go on to competing in the Constructing Excellence national finals in November, alongside Plymouth City Council who won Client of the Year Award. The British Firework Championships Brings Dazzling Opportunities for Local Businesses

The British Firework Championships held in Plymouth each year is the UK’s most spectacular fireworks display. Plymouth’s Lifejacket Scheme Goes National

Plymouth’s trail blazing lifejacket scheme is to be rolled out across the country. Fishing crews based in Plymouth were all offered free E250 lifejackets with personal locator beacons, thanks to an innovative project set up by Plymouth City Council. Now the scheme will be rolled out in fishing ports up and down the country as part of the National Marine Safety Action Plan which is designed to help reduce loss of life and accidents within the local fishing industry.  To find out more click here

Millfields Trust Celebrates 20 Years of Business

The Millfields Trust celebrated their 20th Anniversary on 21 June with guests including Board Members, tenants past and present, stakeholders and friends of the Trust, all hosted by the Stonehouse Barracks. Council Agrees New City Centre Conservation Area

More of Plymouth’s unique post-war architecture will enjoy more planning protection after Plymouth City Council approved plans for a new conservation area in the city centre. The new designation places Royal Parade and Civic Square at its heart of a new conservation area. To find out more click here


OfS Funding Extension Awarded to University of Plymouth Led Outreach Partnership

Following the success of Phase one, the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) has been extended for a further two academic years, with a new completion date of 31 July 2021.  As the partnership’s lead institution, the University of Plymouth (UoP) has been awarded £5.5 million, to support Phase two. As lead institute, UoP will act as a centre point for all regional outreach work, ensuring schools and colleges are able to access transparent and impartial HE outreach from a variety of providers.
