Welcome to the latest update from Active Oadby and Wigston.
We work in partnership with local organisations to deliver a wide variety of programmes designed to provide the residents of Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston with the opportunity to be physically active.
|
|
|
Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.
Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories and make your heart healthier.
You do not have to walk for hours. A brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards your 150 minutes of weekly exercise, as recommended in the physical activity guidelines for adults aged 19 to 64.

 Walking Netball
Walking netball is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. The risk of pain, discomfort and injury is reduced due to the combination of a slower pace and reduced contact.
Our Walking Netball sessions run every week on a Monday from 7pm - 8pm at South Wigston High school.

Include walking in your daily routine |
|
|
Can't make it to a walking group, or would rather go it alone?
The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit and include it in your daily routine!
A few simple changes could lead to you increasing your step count on a regular basis. We've compiled some ideas for you here:
- Walk all or part of your journey to work
- Walk to the shops - or park further away!
- Use the stairs instead of the lift
- Leave the car behind for short journeys
- Walk the kids to school
- Have walking meeting with a colleague
- Have a regular walk with a friend
- Go for a stroll with family or friends after dinner
