Get healthier and happier in 2023! |
|
The new year brings new opportunities to get active and live a healthier and happier life!
Our goal is to increase physical activity throughout the borough with our wide range of programmes, making people healthier and happier through positive action and self direction.
Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities

Dry January - are you in?
|
|
Dry January encourages participants to spend the 31 days of January alcohol-free.
Benefits of reducing alcohol intake include better sleep and more energy, improvements to your mental health and concentration, brighter skin, saving money and feeling an amazing sense of achievement.
It's not too late to start now! You can use the free Try Dry app from Alcohol Change UK to track and set your own custom goals for drinking year-round, monitor your wellbeing, plus take on a dry month (or longer!) any time.

Find a Warm Hub in the borough |
|
|
If you or someone that you know is struggling with the cost of living crisis, Warm Hubs provide a safe place to go for free, and usually offer refreshments and activities.
As part of the council's cost of living support package we have been working with local charities and organisations to ensure that these spaces are available in the borough.
Parklands Leisure Centre in Oadby and Wigston Pool and Fitness Centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with the council, are two of the venues where local residents can find a free warm space to socialise, enjoy a hot drink and get involved with activities.
There is no need to book - you can just drop in and speak to the reception team.

 Walking Netball
Walking netball is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. The risk of pain, discomfort and injury is reduced due to the combination of a slower pace and reduced contact.
Our Walking Netball sessions run every week on a Monday from 7pm - 8pm at South Wigston High school.
