The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) are an agency of the Department for Transport. They carry out driving tests, approve people to be driving instructors and MOT testers, carry out tests to make sure lorries and buses are safe to drive, carry out roadside checks on drivers and vehicles, and monitor vehicle recalls.
They publish the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, which is vitally important for keeping you fleet on the road.
They also publish useful content on YouTube, which can be found here - Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency - YouTube
DVSA are also the enforcement agency that you will encounter if you break the conditions of your operator licence. They can issue roadside fines, prohibitions to take your vehicles off the road and send cases to the Traffic Commissioners to be considered for Public Inquiries.
DVSA Earned Recognition is a voluntary scheme for vehicle operators to prove that they meet driver and vehicle standards.
For new operators, DVSA offers a pathway into the scheme called the Road to Earned Recognition and details can be found at: Get help if you're a new vehicle operator - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
