You should register to receive your Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS). This isn’t a legal requirement, but it’s an important part of knowing how well you’re doing.
A traffic commissioner at public inquiry would take a dim view of you not having registered to receive it.
In simple terms, it assesses the risk that you’re not following the rules for operators. The score is based on a number of factors. These include:
- roadside enforcement encounters
- evidence from site visits
- results of annual heavy vehicle tests
DVSA use this data to produce a risk score with a red, amber or green rating. Red is for serially non-compliant operators, amber is for occasionally non-compliant operators and green is for compliant operators.
Operators can also be rated as 'unknown' if DVSA do not have enough data about them. Operators on Earned Recognition are outside of the OCRS rating system.
Your score affects how DVSA will target you, meaning they’ll be less likely to pull your vehicles over if you’re a compliant operator than a non-compliant operator.
