Road safety week: Thank you for taking responsibility

Road safety week: 19-25 November

Today is the start of road safety week. To support this important campaign, we’ll be issuing a new bulletin every day until Friday, featuring information to help you stay compliant, cases at public inquiry and the thoughts of one traffic commissioner who recently completed his TM refresher training.

Thank you for taking responsibility

Road safety week offers a timely reminder on why compliance is so important

The theme of this year’s Road Safety Week is ‘Bike Smart’.

The statistics show that more than a third of people killed or seriously injured on the UK roads are those travelling by bike.

In the commercial vehicle industries, this is an issue of real concern.

That’s why it’s important to recognise your decisions save lives every day.

The checks you undertake.

The standards you rigorously meet when operating or driving vehicles.

The duties you perform to provide continuous and effective management.

Operator licensing is the benchmark for safe operations. By continually meeting your licence promises, you maintain and promote road safety.

That’s hugely important. We can all be classed as vulnerable road users at some stage in our journeys. And so can our family members and friends.

So the Traffic Commissioners for Great Britain want to start Road Safety Week by thanking you for your continued commitment to keep our roads safe.
