Our mission at Kent Fire and Rescue Service is to make sure that all businesses in Kent and Medway are aware of new legislation and how it affects your business and/or the duties of Responsible Persons.
As a result of the Independent Review which took place after the Grenfell Tower enquiry, the new Building Safety Act became law in April of this year. The Act brought changes to the Fire Safety Order, most of which relate to the duties of the Responsible Persons for all non-domestic buildings, business and public buildings. It's important to make sure you are aware of what these changes will mean for your business or premises.
From October 2023, all responsible persons will have a duty to:
record their completed fire risk assessment in full, together with new additional information which was not previously required
cooperate and coordinate with other Responsible Persons in the premises
cooperate with Accountable Persons
provide information to any new Responsible Persons
for premises with two or more sets of domestic premises, Responsible Persons must provide additional information to residents
The Government Guidance provides detailed information on the changes. Please also keep an eye on our website where we will shortly be publishing our dedicated Building Safety Act web pages providing you with easy-to-follow information.
If you employ or manage people who drive for work, it‘s worth taking a look at the National Highways free ’Driving for Better Business’ programme. It aims to help businesses reduce their work-related road risk and improve levels of compliance. You can see how this programme has helped others and sign up by visiting the website.
