 Speed Checks in Uttlesford
As part of our commitment to making roads as safe as possible under the Vision Zero initiative, the Uttlesford Neighbourhood Policing Team has been out conducting speed checks. Officers visited three locations across Uttlesford, including Leaden Roding, and checked over 400 vehicles. As a result of these checks, 37 vehicles were reported for various traffic offences. The highest speed recorded was 48mph in a 30mph zone. While these checks do identify speeding motorists, they also serve as a deterrent. Encouraging drivers and motorcyclists to think about their behaviour on the roads helps make them safer for everyone.
Festive fun with our four-legged friends
Christmas is a time for family, friends, and fun - but for dogs, especially those in a new home, the festive season can bring hidden dangers. From tempting treats to twinkling decorations, here’s how our dog handlers make sure their furry friends enjoy the holidays safely.
Drink and drug drive arrests up 50% in second week of road safety campaign
Roads Policing Unit officers arrested a total of 144 drivers suspected of drink and drug driving on our county’s roads or being unfit to drive through drugs and alcohol during the second week of support for Operation Limit, a national road safety campaign targeting drink and drug drivers. Significantly, those numbers are 50% more than the previous week’s arrest figures of 97.
Commercial Vehicle Unit makes innovative use of technology to detect tyre faults
Before setting off on a journey, most people don’t give their tyres a second thought. But the correct tyre temperature is crucial for overall vehicle safety, providing grip, handling, and correct performance. A cold tyre can cause understeer (front wheels) or oversteer (rear tyres) while too hot means rapid wear and loss of traction as if the tyre is bald! Our Commercial Vehicle Unit officers are road safety experts in the commercial world and routinely check the roadworthiness of lorries, including their tyres. Previously done by eye, they are now using a handheld thermal imaging camera which detects temperature measurements, making it easier to detect tyre faults.

PC Parker, known affectionately as Mat by all who knew and loved him, was a dedicated team member of the Chigwell Roads Policing Unit where he was a motorcycle officer.
