 Keeping our roads safe
We know that drivers speeding on our roads is a concern in our communities. And we understand why. Speed is a major factor involved in road deaths and serious injury collisions. We therefore continue to work alongside the local community, including our speed watch volunteers and local partners, to conduct speed checks in areas where you tell us speeding is an issue. This week the team have carried out enforcement checks in the following areas, Takeley, Great Dunmow, Little Dunmow, Felsted, Elsenham, Clavering, Wicken Bonhunt, Newport, Great Chesterford and Thaxted.
 Saffron Walden family fun day
Officers from the Town Team attended the family fun day on the Saffron Walden Common. Throughout the event, officers conducted patrols across the town, responding to incidents and taking the opportunity to engage with members of the public. In addition to their duties, officers also joined in with several activities. PC Ryan McNamara of Saffron Walden town team commented: “This was a fantastic event—well-organised and attended by a wonderful community. We welcome every opportunity to connect with the public, and we hope everyone had an enjoyable day.”
 Lets Talk - Newport
PCSO Natalie Smith recently hosted her monthly Let’s Talk event at Kappa House coffee shop in Newport. It was great to see local residents drop in for a chat and share their thoughts. Uttlesfords Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator dropped in and offered information on how to join a scheme. Our Let’s Talk events are a great opportunity to raise local concerns, ask questions, or simply stop by and say hello. A big thank you to Kappa House for their warm welcome and continued support.
 Property marking - Littlebury
PCSO Mike O'Donnell Smith and PCSO Smith recently visited Littlebury Green in response to concerns from the parish council regarding a rise in shed and garage burglaries. In a proactive effort to support residents, the team has distributed over 40 security kits throughout the area and supplied the parish council with signage to help deter further incidents.

 Crime prevention advice
Many people don’t secure their shed or garage in the same way they do their homes - often using an easy-to-break lock or padlock to protect valuable contents such as a car, bike or lawnmower. An opportunistic burglar will try a shed or garage first because they can find the tools they need to break into the main house. Don’t give them the opportunity or the tools to commit a crime. Lock everything away securely.
Be fraud smart
Destroy and preferably shred receipts with your card details on and post with your name and address on. Identity fraudsters don’t need much information in order to be able to clone your identity.
Is driving while tired an offence?
Tiredness at the wheel, or driving fatigue, will impact a person’s ability to focus and therefore their standard of driving. Research has shown that driver fatigue may be a contributory factor in up to 20% of all road accidents, and police statistics suggest up to around 4% of fatal road crashes are contributed by fatigue in the UK. 6am is the time when most drivers are likely to fall asleep, this is 20 times more likely than the safest time (10pm at night).
Falling asleep while driving would be classified as dangerous driving.
