New Technology find person evading court
On Saturday your Neighbourhood Policing Team were in Witham to assist the Operational Support Group in the deployment of the new Live Facial Recognition (LFR) vans in the town centre. We use the technology to find people wanted for offences, to help enforce orders against people and to protect those who are vulnerable and at risk of harm. Images of people who are not matched are automatically and immediately deleted. Officers were also available to demonstrate how the equipment works and we had a lot of positive engagement with residents, families and especially children who were intrigued by the monitoring screens inside. During the deployment there were 4 positive matches with 1 person arrested for failing to appear at Court, 1 person breaching bail conditions set by the Court and 1 person subject to an order who was spoken to before they continued on their way. There’s more information about Live Facial Recognition on our website
Dog seized during animal cruelty investigation
Last week, officers were called to reports of a dog being abused in Braintree town centre. Police responded swiftly and arrested a man on suspicion of animal cruelty offences. The dog, a 9-month-old Husky, has been seized and is now safe while our investigation continues. The man has been released on bail as enquiries remain ongoing. As police, we are committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our communities — and that includes animals. We understand that incidents like this can be deeply upsetting to witness or hear about. That’s why we’re urging anyone who saw what happened or has any information to come forward. Please visit the link and quote reference 42/81262/25.
PSCO's meeting the officers of the future
This week some of our PCSO's had the pleasure of visiting Ridgewell Primary School to talk to the pupils about the role of a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and what they get up to on a day-to-day basis. They chatted about everything from patrolling local areas and supporting the community, to working with partner agencies and helping keep people safe. The students were full of fantastic questions and it was brilliant to see how engaged and curious they were It’s always a privilege to spend time with young people and help them understand the positive role our PCSO's play in their communities. A big thank you to Ridgewell Primary for the warm welcome — we hope we inspired a few future PCSOs or police officers To find out more about the different roles and careers within Essex Police click the link
Do you own a Porsche Macan or Cayenne ?
We’re seeing a rise in the theft of Porsche Macan and Cayenne vehicles in the north of the county.
To help tackle this, our officers will be proactively stopping these vehicles when seen during patrols. If you're a driver of one of these models, please don’t be alarmed — this is part of our effort to protect your property and prevent further crime.
Keyless Entry Theft – What You Can Do: Criminals can use signal-boosting devices to steal cars with keyless entry systems — often in seconds. Here’s how to protect yourself:
Use a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) to store your keys when not in use.
Keep keys well away from doors and windows — don’t leave them near the front door.
Turn off your key’s wireless signal if your vehicle allows it.
Consider a steering wheel lock or tracking device for added security.
Stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.

We’re committed to keeping our communities safe. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

 Crime prevention advice
Many people don’t secure their shed or garage in the same way they do their homes - often using an easy-to-break lock or padlock to protect valuable contents such as a car, bike or lawnmower. An opportunistic burglar will try a shed or garage first because they can find the tools they need to break into the main house. Don’t give them the opportunity or the tools to commit a crime. Lock everything away securely.
Be fraud smart
Destroy and preferably shred receipts with your card details on and post with your name and address on. Identity fraudsters don’t need much information in order to be able to clone your identity.
 What is the what3words system?
The what3words system enables the emergency services to find someone more easily.
When people call 999 they often struggle to describe their location, what3words helps them say exactly where they are, saving precious response time.
How does it work?
The system works by assigning 3 distinct words for every 3 square metre grid square on a map.
You must have the what3words app on your phone (which you can download on both Android and iOS from the link in Related Information). Then in an emergency:
Find the 3 word address for your current location on the free what3words app. It works offline – ideal for areas with an unreliable data connection. Share your 3 word address over the phone to the call handler. The emergency service can then coordinate a response directly to the exact location where help is needed. Please see the official what3words website in Related Information if you wish to know more.
