Working in partnership to tackle flytipping - Saffron Walden
Our Rural Engagement Team (RET) conducted a joint operation to tackle fly-tipping in Saffron Walden. Last week RET officers were joined by Uttlesford District Council enforcement team. They checked vehicles for any waste or scrap metal and checked for waste carrier's licences. As a result one vehicle was seized after the driver didn't have the correct insurance and two drivers were reported for driving without a seatbelt. Our RET officers work with local authorities across Essex to combat waste crime. This includes the illegal carrying of waste and fly tipping. Fly-tipping is illegal dumping of liquid or solid waste on land or in water. The waste is usually dumped to avoid disposal costs. A waste carrier's licence is a permit that allows people or businesses to legally transport waste. It ensures that waste is handled and disposed of properly. Having a waste carrier's licence helps prevent illegal dumping (fly-tipping) and ensures that waste is managed in a way that protects public health and the environment.

Driver caught doing 140mph - A120 Takeley
A speeding driver has been stopped and had their car seized after being clocked at 140mph in Takeley. Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers were conducting speed checks in on the A120 in Takeley on Saturday 4 January, when they captured a car travelling at 140mph. Officers followed the driver and, thanks to the motorists who were observing the speed limit and a little bit of luck due to traffic build up, our roads policing officers caught up with the car near Stansted Airport.

I want to dispose of some kitchen knives can you tell me how to do this safely?
You can put the knives in your bin. It is advisable to ensure that they are packaged securely so as not to cause injury to any persons.
With the introduction of wheelie bins everything is done by machine so that likelihood of injury has been vastly reduced. However it is still advisable to package the knives securely just in case.
All metal knives can be taken to your local waste disposal site where there will be a skip for scrap metal.
