Virginia McCullough
Chelmsford: Daughter admits murdering parents
A woman has admitted to murdering her parents four years ago following an investigation led by our Serious Crime Directorate.
Virginia McCullough, 36, killed her father John, aged 70 at the time of his death, and mother Lois, aged 71 at the time of her death, at their home in Pump Hill, Great Baddow.
After carrying out the murders, which she told us took place at some stage in the summer of 2019, she concealed their bodies within the property and continued to live at the address.
To cover her tracks, she told persistent lies about their whereabouts, frequently telling doctors and relatives her parents were unwell, on holiday or away on lengthy trips.
Her actions were uncovered after her parents’ GPs raised concerns over missed appointments in 2023.

Lewis Parker
Westcliff: Man who bragged about being on the Sex Offenders Register jailed
Lewis Parker, 23 of Westcliff Avenue, Westcliff appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Monday, 1 July where he was sentenced following proactive work from our Police Online Investigation Team.
Officrs attended Parker’s address in Westcliff on 9 May 2024 following intelligence that Parker had been accessing indecent images of children online. He was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences. Devices, which Parker was prohibited from owning following a previous conviction, were seized for analysis.
This analysis showed that Parker had been engaging in conversations on ‘dark-web’ chat rooms and discussing trading child pornography.
In one conversation, Parker bragged how he was “on the reg” meaning sex offenders register and appeared to brag that his previous convictions had no effect on him.

Beware of distraction burglars
Distraction burglars pretend to be someone they are not in order to gain entry to your home.
Common methods used by distraction burglars include pretending to be from a utility company, seeking help to leave a note for a neighbour or even asking for a drink of water claiming to be unwell.
If they are from a company ask for ID and check it with the company before letting anyone into your home.
Remember if in doubt, keep them out.
Be fraud smart
Have you met someone online who has declared strong feelings for you in a short space of time?
Stay alert when a stranger flirts!
Fraudsters have been known to use dating sites to steal people’s money. They lower your defences by building a relationship, before asking for money or asking you to invest in something.

David Evan Bowen Lewis
David Lewis joined the Essex County Constabulary on 19 March 1926, and was stationed for ten years at Coggeshall. He is still remembered in the town for helping to re-erect Coggeshall's church bells so they could be rung on VE day.
After the war David was promoted to sergeant and posted to Ingatestone. Three months later, on July 14 1946, he was called from his house to deal with passengers refusing to leave an overcrowded bus; two young men had to be forcibly ejected. Within a few minutes of the unexpected exertion, David Lewis collapsed and died.
