News 26 June to 2 July
Across Essex, almost every investigation begins life as a 999 call and in the last year, we’ve responded to almost 80,000 emergencies.
In that time, our response officers have made more than 17,000 arrests.
The fantastic work that response officers do every single day is being celebrated during a national week of action.
Our response officers, who work in our Local Policing Teams (LPT), are the first on the scene when the public need us most.
These officers never know where they will be going or what they will be facing when they arrive for their shift. But whatever they are faced with, they put victims first, and keep them safe by catching criminals.
Canvey: Man arrested for assaulting police, theft and breach of bail
Officers from our Special Constabulary arrested a 40 year old man on Canvey on 29 June after he had taken an item from a store without payment. Once detained, the man became aggressive and verbally abusive towards the officers and he had to be restrained using PAVA spray.
The man was arrested for theft from shop, public order, breach of court bail and assaulting two police officers. He was charged with these offences and remanded to court.
Luke Ferriggi, 40, of no fixed abode was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment at Southend on sea Magistrates court on 1 July.
Patrolling crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots
Our Community Policing Team officers have been patrolling anti-social behaviour and crime 'hotspots' across Castle Point, on foot and by car, engaging with the community, providing reassurance and dealing with any incidents that arise.
The 'hotspots' are identified through incidents, intelligence received and local officer knowledge.

 Protect your vehicle
With four vehicles stolen since 29 June, we are advising car owners to invest in additional security to keep their vehicles safe.
In addition to usual crime prevention advice, we also recommend:
- Fit a FULL approved steering wheel lock.
- Use approved Faraday Bags (however they may not be effective on certain methods of attack)
- Double Lock the vehicle and ENSURE its locked when they leave it
- OBD Protection
- Additional Immobilizer, such as a GHOST.
Be fraud smart
Fraudsters use social media advertising to lure people into investing in cryptocurrency scams.
They often have convincing social media profiles or websites with bogus reviews; including photos of luxury items, such as expensive cars and watches, to entice you in.
Don't assume everything is real, if you’re thinking about making an investment, get independent advice and thoroughly research the company first.
We are aware fraudsters sometimes comment on our Facebook posts offering to help, please do not reply or click on any links. #StaySafe report it, and to find out more about how to spot a scam search ‘Fraud’ on our website.
Local youths keep knocking on my door / throwing eggs and running away, what can I do?
It is possible that this type of behaviour may constitute harassment, however, it would probably be best if you first made contact with your local Community policing team who may be aware of other incidents and know the identity of the youths involved (if you don't). Police Community Support Officers are a valuable source of information.
The officers may be able to consider applying for civil injunctions or Criminal Behaviour Orders if the same youths are persistently causing a community problem with these types of nuisance activities.
These types of problems may not be solved straight away though, a lot of enquiries, research and observations may be required by both officers and members of the community in order to combat this anti-social behaviour.
It may be a good idea to keep a log of the incidents including the date, time and details of the incidents that have taken place, which may assist officers and local authority staff when investigating these matters.
