Witham: Special Constables support the Witham dog show
On Saturday the Witham Community Special Constable team attended the Witham Town Council dog show held on the RiverWalk. They set up with advice on how to keep yourself safe and recruitment advice on how you can join our team of special constables. They provided colouring, access to their vehicle & dressing up clothes. They were also able to give safety and scam advice with a variety of different leaflets and handouts.
Overall a great community day with lots of positive engagement from families and children. Events like this are a great opportunity to build relationships with our local community and engage with people on local issues and concerns.
Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers. They have the same police powers, uniforms and equipment as regular Police Officers but sacrifice their free time on a voluntary basis, organising their busy personal lives, day jobs and other commitments around police duties. Great Notley: Overturned lorry on A131/A120 roundabout
Last Wednesday we attended the scene of a lorry overturned on the Great Notley roundabout A131 junction to the A120. Traffic was diverted up to the Hungry Horse public house and back to access the A120 Stansted bound.
Sadly we had multiple drivers decide to breach our road closures driving around the cones, signs and police car with blue lights. They were all issued traffic offence reports and we posted the reports to those we couldn’t stop.

Officers were called to Boars Tye Road in Silver End shortly after 6:30am on Saturday 29 June following reports of a single vehicle collision.
Sadly, a 26-year-old man died at the scene. His family are aware.

Braintree: Man charged in Class A drug supply investigation
Officers acting to dismantle drug dealing gangs operating in Braintree have secured supply charges against a man.
They also seized a substantial quantity of suspected Class A drugs and electronic items which are significant to the investigation.
Specials policing teams led an investigation against a suspected line operating in the district.
This work led to officers attending an address in Braintree on Tuesday 25 June, supported by officers with our Operational Support Group.
During that operation, a man was arrested on suspicion of drug offences and taken into custody for questioning.
Tommy Gilbert, 26, of Mann Close, Witham, has now been charged with two counts of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.
He was due to appear in Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 27 June.

Crime prevention - Keyless entry
Cars with keyless entry unlock automatically when the key comes within a short distance of the car. This can be from inside a pocket or bag. If you have to push a button on your car key to open your car, you don't have keyless entry. Keyless car theft or 'relay theft' is when a device is used to fool the car into thinking the key is close by. This unlocks the car and starts the ignition.
Thieves only need to be within a few metres of your car key to capture the signal, even if it’s inside your home. This means that even if your car and home are secure, thieves can still unlock, start and steal your car. How to protect your keyless entry car
- When at home keep your car key (and the spare) well away from the car.
- Put the keys in a screened or signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag and check if the bag or pouch is still working every few months.
- Reprogramme your keys if you buy a second hand car.
- Turn off wireless signals on your fob when it's not being used.
Be fraud smart
There have been occasions when fraudsters have posed as police officers, both in person and on the phone, to trick people into giving them personal information and defraud them of money. If you're unsure about whether the person you're dealing with is a genuine police officer – stop – and call us on 101 to check their identity.
I have found an injured animal, who can I contact?
If you find an injured or sick animal, you can phone a local vet who will be able to provide advice. If you wish to catch and transport the animal, a vet will also be able to advise you how to do this safely. See the link in Related Information to find a local vet. For larger injured wildlife, phone the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 and do not try to catch the animal yourself.
