News 2 January - 9 January 2024
2023 has been a bad year to be a criminal in Essex
We have taken violent offenders off the streets. We have banned dangerous drivers from our major roads and rural lanes. And we’ve made sure criminals who exploit others, including children, through their trade in illegal drugs are given serious sentences in prison.
Essex Police officers arrested 52 people on suspicion of shoplifting across the county in the last fortnight.
And 31 were subsequently charged with theft offences and other related matters.
Appeal - Can you help?
We are appealing for information following a theft from a vehicle in Southend where expensive search and rescue equipment was taken.
Equipment which is used to save people's lives in rescue situations, including a camera worth a five-figure sum, was taken from a black Ford Transit van at the Camelia Hotel in Eastern Esplanade at around 8pm on 4 January.
If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

Fewer domestic abuse cases and improvements in protecting victims
“We’re seeing fewer cases and fewer repeat victims – and we’re doing a better job at protecting them” - that’s from a senior detective in charge of tackling domestic abuse.
Reports of domestic abuse in Essex have fallen in the last 12 months, with nearly 4,500 fewer offences, and the number of repeat victims has also fallen.
