Thank you for your kind donations
“A really big thank you to Morrisons, Sainsburys, Asda, BP, B&M, Waitrose, Superdrug and all of their amazing customers for donating many gifts to our Christmas Giving Tree Appeal” and although this will go a long way, we are still looking to help as many as we can.
There’s still plenty of time for you to donate and help us to make sure that every child in the district receives a gift this Christmas.

Three men arrested for drink driving offences across Castle Point
Our teams have arrested 3 persons over the past week for drink driving offences.
We arrested a 55-year-old man from Canvey on Sunday 10 December, following a road traffic collision on the island. He failed a roadside breath-test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. In custody he provided a reading of 42 microgrammes in 100ml of breath and was charged to appear at court in January 2024.
We arrested a 79-year-old man from Benfleet on 5 December, following a road traffic collision. At the roadside he blew 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken to hospital as a precaution, where a sample of his blood was taken. He has been interviewed and we now await blood results.
A 25-year-old man from Chelmsford was arrested following a road traffic collision on Canvey in the early hours of 7 December. The man had initially left the scene of the collision and was arrested for failing to stop. He refused to provide a roadside breath test and was further arrested for failing to provide. In custody he continued to refuse to provide a breath sample without reasonable excuse and has been charged. He will appear at court in January 2024.
Please let us know if you suspect somebody is consuming alcohol whilst driving, you could potentially save a life. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Canvey - Specialist support for local officers following robberies
Our colleagues from Operational Policing Command (OPC) have been assisting us by patrolling across Canvey following three recent attempted robberies, providing a visible presence to safeguard the community. They stopped and searched three people during their patrols.
Can you help? Theft from cars in Benfleet
In the early hours of 8 December, around 3.30am, we were conducting high visibility patrol in Benfleet and spotted a suspicious man loitering outside a house in Rushbottom Lane. Unfortunately the man saw us and ran off but we did find a toolbox containing power tools left behind. These had been taken from a works van and have been reunited with their owner.
The suspect is described as being white, around six foot tall wearing dark clothing. If you were in the area close to Louisa Avenue and have any information, CCTV or doorbell footage, please contact us on 101 or report online, quoting incident 0123 - 08/12
Weekend roundup
Over the weekend our officers attended 14 emergency response incidents, including four domestic incidents, five disturbances, a road traffic collision, and a fire on Canvey.
They also attended several priority incidents. Two sudden deaths in Benfleet and a further two on Canvey, a nuisance vehicle behind Waterside Farm on the fields and a suspicious circumstances call on the Island.
In addition, they also dealt with a report of a missing person, a concern for a schoolboy who called us for assistance and reports of a man jumping on the tracks at Benfleet railway station.
55 calls received for Castle Point, not all of them required an officer to attend and were managed by the hard-working team at our Force Control Room.

Protect your quad bikes and lawnmowers from theft
Quad bikes and ride-on lawnmowers are valuable to thieves and expensive to replace.
Stop thieves in their tracks by making sure your shed, barn or outbuildings are secure.
Secure the door with pad bolts or close-shackle padlocks. Pay attention to hinges, as these can sometimes be removed. Keep them locked at all times.
Consider installing security lighting and CCTV, and adding wire mesh or grills to any windows to help make them more secure.
Always record serial numbers & other identifying features and security-mark your property.

Be fraud smart
Gift cards are popular with criminals as they are more difficult to trace compared to bank transfers.
Criminals pose as organisations such as HMRC or the DVLA and invent a time-critical reason they need the gift card.
This can include claims that you need to pay a tax, fine, or a fee to win a prize. Once you have bought the card and sent the voucher code to the fraudster, the money on the card is either spent straight away or the card is sold onto other criminals.
Take a moment to stop and think before spending your money.
Contact your bank if you think you might have been scammed.
My neighbour has erected a fence on my land, can I take it down?
The police cannot assist in boundary issues as they are a civil matter.
Do not damage or destroy the fence as you may commit criminal damage and be liable to prosecution.
The best course of action is to discuss the matter with your neighbour, to try to resolve the matter in an informal and friendly way. Try to establish if there has been a misunderstanding with the boundary. Obtain a copy of your deeds which will clearly show the boundary line and compare this with your neighbours. You should make every effort to remain on good terms with your neighbours.
If it is still not resolved then you should think about seeking advice from a solicitor or Citizens' Advice Bureau. However, be aware that getting solicitors involved could prove to be costly. The planning department of the local authority may have more information available.
