 A woman has been charged with two counts of murder following an investigation by detectives and staff from our serious crime directorate.

 Our Stolen Vehicle Intelligence Unit (SVIU) found several stolen vehicles that had or were in the process of having their identities changed in Epping.

 A man has been jailed after officers seized £70,000 cash, wrapped in foil, disguised as “sandwiches”.
13 arrests during weekend tackling high-harm crime
Officers from our Operational Support Group (OSG) made 13 arrests this weekend, tackling several high-harm crimes across the county.
 Officers from Loughton Community Policing Team (CPT) spoke to hundreds of students at New City College to give them advice about staying safe as the new term gets underway.
As young people make the transition from school to college, many will enjoy a greater degree of freedom, more active social lives and form new relationships.
The CPT officers want the students to feel confident they can approach the police to report incidents and also recognise what inappropriate behaviour looks like.
Leaflets, mirrors and stickers were handed out to publicise our #Reflect campaign which looks to break cycles of domestic abuse and reduce violence against women and girls.

There was a 24% drop in incidents of violence against the person and a 55% fall in anti-social behaviour.
Roads Crime Team (RCT), officers arrested a man who was wanted on suspicion of a serious assault by colleagues, during a vehicle stop in Basildon.
A victim of attempted burglary has thanked the officers and police staff who responded swiftly and with compassion to her urgent call for help.
The victim, a 49-year-old woman who we are keeping anonymous, lives on her own at her home in Basildon.
Her 999 call was answered by a call handler within our Force Control Room shortly after 1.16am on Monday 28 August.
She reported hearing someone climb over her garden fence before trying her door handle.

Tendring: Continued reduction in anti-social behaviour
Anti-social behaviour incidents have continued to reduce across the Tendring district over the past year.
There has been a 41% drop in anti-social behaviour in the year to 31 August with 923 fewer offences recorded than during the previous 12 months.
A Clacton man arrested after police found drugs in his car boot during last year’s Clacton Airshow has been given a suspended jail sentence along with100 hours of unpaid work, 30 days of rehabilitation activity, ordered to attend a mental health programme for 12 months, an alcohol treatment programme for six months and to pay a victim surcharge.

Our Reflect campaign works to reduce Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and is being taken into colleges and universities to reach students during Freshers week.
The campaign's focus is around preventing stalking. Alongside our partners, we're working to help students who are moving to new areas, meeting new people and forging new relationships, to stay safe.
Officers are appealing for information after a pedestrian, aged in his 50s, sadly died following a collision with a car on Sewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey, shortly before 9.10pm on 12 September.
A temporary knife bin has been fitted next to the Knife Angel sculpture in Harlow to encourage residents to safely dispose of knives.
The Knife Angel sculpture was created by artist Alfie Bradley entirely from knives confiscated across the UK. It is a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences of knife crime and the need for collective action to address this issue.
The temporary knife bin will be in Playhouse Square until 30 September, when the Knife Angel will move to Colchester.
Detectives investigating a serious assault on a woman as she walked her dog in the area of Mill Lane, Broomfield around 6.25pm on 11 September, are appealing for witnesses.
 A new knife bin has been fitted at The Dovercourt and Harwich Hub to encourage residents in the area to safely dispose of knives.
It joins the other 13 knife bins in towns and cities across our county where you can safely deposit knives and other bladed articles.
A serial shoplifter has been jailed for almost a year after officers were able to link him to 24 offences in Co-op shops in and around Colchester.
A man has been jailed for dangerous driving following a collision last year in Kelvedon where a 30-year-old man sadly died.
Last month, our Roads Policing officers stopped over 300 drivers who were tested at the roadside on suspicion of drink or drug driving offences. 109 arrests were made for for drink driving, 72 for drug driving and 30 for drink and drug driving.
Two men have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a burglary which happened at an address on Royal Terrace, Southend at around 3pm on 10 September.
The family of a young girl who was sexually assaulted has praised the detective who brought her abuser to justice.
 The Southend Police and Partners Open Day attracted more than 2,000 people to the police station on Saturday 9 September.

A 31-year-old man was arrested by firearms officers at an address on Old Road, Clacton at around 2pm on Monday 11 September after we were called with concerns about possible drug related activity.

 This week we remember
Alfred Wilson
 Alfred applied to join the Southend Borough Constabulary and was attested as Constable 83 on 10 March, 1915. Just nine months later in December 1915, Alfred volunteered to enlist with the 16th Rifle Brigade.
Alfred’s division fought in the Third Battle of Ypres – Passchendale in August 1917. It was here on 20 September, 1917, close to the Menin Road, that Lance Sergeant S/14598 Alfred Wilson gave his life. He was twenty-seven years old.
Hermanus Herman Bertrum De Leur
Police Constable Hermanus 'Herman' Bertram De Leur served with Southend Borough Constabulary from 1 September, 1938. Not long after joining he was recalled to the army - being mobilised on 1 December, 1939. He is believed to have died on or shortly after Wednesday 20 September, 1944 during the Battle of Arnhem while serving as Sergeant 2614295 with the 11th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, A.A.C.

Kenneth Sylvester
The Chief Constable regrets to inform you of the sad death of our former colleague Kenneth Sylvester who retired as a sergeant in 1987 and served at Southend Borough, Rochford & Shoeburyness. He leaves a widow Josephine. He passed away on 11 August, 2023 aged 86 years.
