How the fertility rate is changing in England and Wales
Fewer children are being born in England and Wales and the fertility rate is at its lowest level on record. But as we can learn from previous generations, this is not the entire picture when measuring long-term fertility. This article tells the story of four generations of women in a fictional family to explain how we measure fertility, how the number of births and fertility rates have changed over time, and some factors that have affected fertility trends.
