Population estimates publication suite

Today the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published a suite of population and international migration releases accompanied by a blog by Emma Rourke, Deputy National Statistician.

Behaviour shifts and the implications for migration statistics

Emma discusses the main drivers for migration to the UK, why we update our estimates of international migration and the transformation of the population and migration statistical system. 

Population estimates for England and Wales: mid-2022

This release includes:

• information on population change
• impact of international migration and other factors on population change
• population pyramids and demographics
• comparison with experimental admin-based estimates

Rebasing of mid-year population estimates following Census 2021, England and Wales

This release includes:

• rebased official population estimates for the period 2012 to 2021
• the impact of improved data
• how the remaining differences have been dealt with

The full detail of the rebased back series, including the revised international migration estimates can be found in the release, alongside summary tables to aid analysis.
