Latest migration estimates
Today we have published our latest estimates of international migration, up to year ending December 2022. This includes revisions to some of our previous estimates from 2018 onwards based on improvements to our methods. We have also published an update to our continuing research, as well as updating our methodology paper and Quality and Methods Information (QMI). Jay Lindop gives a detailed summary of our releases, and what to expect in the future in her blog.
Plans for population and migration estimates
Custom dataset tool
We are very excited to have launched our ‘create a custom dataset tool’ as part of our Census 2021 multivariate data release. We are now planning phase 3. This is where we will provide data on alternative and small populations, origin destination, microdata, detailed migration and others.
We are currently still in the design stage of this phase and our release calendar will be updated soon. More detail can be found about census products on our Census Hub.
Assessing the benefits of Census 2021 data
Over the coming months we will engage with many users to understand the realised economic benefits of Census 2021 data. Initially, we’ll be speaking to organisations who contributed evidence to the forecast exercise, so we can understand whether the data is being used as envisaged and whether the benefits are being realised as expected. Once we have completed this initial phase, we will then be looking to collect evidence from a wider range of organisations.
This is a separate exercise to the upcoming consultation on the future of population and migration statistics, and focuses on understanding, evaluating and quantifying the economic benefits of Census 2021 data.
