Feature of the month – social trends
During the period 19 April – 1 May, the Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (OPN) published information on the most commonly reported issues concerning the cost of living, the NHS and the economy. You can access data about the latest social insights on daily life and events.
The new shopping prices comparison tool
How has the average price of items changed over time? This tool has been built to help people understand why their household might be experiencing the impact of inflation through the goods that they buy. It shows how the price of more than 450 different items has changed since 2018.
The tool contains items ranging from bananas to nursery fees. It also lets you create your own bespoke basket of items and calculate the total average price change across these items, such as the cost of a roast dinner.
Don’t forget to join us next week!
We are running a free webinar on the new Cost of living insights tool on 23 May. ONS and the Government Statistical Service (GSS) have produced a wealth of data and insight, brought together for the first time into this new tool. Join us on 23 May to see how it’s kept up to date and learn how to navigate the data.
UK equalities data
The ONS and the Government Statistical Service (GSS) have produced a site which allows you to search for data and publications on the protected characteristics as codified under the Equality Act. These are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. You can access a wide variety of information, such as those more at risk of crime through discrimination or disadvantage.
Beyond GDP – a brand new well-being measure
The ONS will launch brand new findings on how the UK is doing on health, well-being, the environment and other important areas for our quality of life. Read more in our blog, and join us for a launch event on 5 July. Also, watch out for more activity on this topic from the Outreach and Engagement Team, including an introduction to the new measures and GDP.
Play the Census 2021 quiz
Data is vital to us all but it can also be used in fun and interactive ways. We have produced a variety of tools and interactive visualisations to help you use Census 2021 data. Here’s an example using the latest census figures to test how well you know your area.
