2020-based interim national population projections: year ending June 2022 estimated international migration variant

27 January 2023

Today, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published 2020-based interim national population projections (NPPs): year ending June 2022 estimated international migration variant. This data-only release provides new international migration assumptions that have been developed following the latest expert advice and latest provisional estimates of international migration. These projections are a variant of the previously published 2020-based interim NPPs.

We advise users to, where possible, use the 2020-based interim national population projections: year ending June 2022 estimated international migration variant instead of the 2020-based interim national population projections principal projection which was published in January 2022. This is because they take account of more recent estimates of international migration in the averages used to calculate the short- and long-term international migration assumptions.

Projections are available in this release for: United Kingdom, Great Britain, England and Wales, England, Scotland and Wales. The next national population projections are provisionally scheduled for December 2023; for updates please see the ONS Release Calendar.
