Coronavirus and the social impacts on Great Britain: 18 September 2020

This week’s ONS survey looks at the period 9-13 September, at which time summer holidays were ending and many young people were returning to schools or colleges.

The survey continues to ask about people’s experience of life under the pandemic such as the precautions they are taking to prevent the spread of the virus, and how they are adapting as restrictions change, including socialising with people outside their household.

Findings include:

  • Over 6 in 10 (62%) of working adults reported they had travelled to work (either exclusively or in combination with working from home) in the past seven days, while 20% had worked exclusively at home.
  • Nearly 6 in 10 adults (57%) said they had socialised with between 1 and 5 other people at the same time and a further 13% said they had socialised with 6 or more (see note below).
