This week we're bringing you a festive edition of Your Oxford, featuring some news from the past week, and information on our opening hours and bin collections over the Christmas period.
We hope that you have a safe and relaxing Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
News from this week
OX Place submits planning application to build 32 affordable homes in Iffley
Our housing company OX Place has submitted a planning application to build 32 affordable, low carbon homes in Iffley. These will include 19 council homes and 13 shared ownership homes.
The Meadow Lane development will be highly energy efficient. This will be achieved by enhanced building fabric and air tightness standards and the use of air source heat pumps. The new homes will be electrically heated.
Selective Licensing catches 10,000 early birds
Every private rented home in Oxford now needs a licence since the start of our selective licensing scheme on 1 September.
We offered a three-month early bird discounted rate to encourage landlords and agents to make early applications to license their properties. The early bird period ended on 30 November and a standard fee of £480 for a five year licence now applies during the first year of the scheme.
We’re now dealing with more than 10,000 licence applications received during the first three months of the scheme – considerably more than our target of 7,500 applications.
Community Christmas Lunches in Oxford
Community Christmas lunches are back again this year. If you’re looking for some company on the day or can’t afford a festive meal, the events below could be just what you need.

Bin collections
Most bin collections in the city will continue as normal over the festive period, so please put your waste, recycling and food caddies out as you normally would.
The only change to residential waste collections is to your brown bin. That there will be no garden or bulky waste collections between 26 December and 8 January.
This year, ODS will be collecting real Christmas trees as part of normal service. Between 10 January and 3 February you can leave your bare, real tree out on your green/brown bin collection day. You do not need a garden waste subscription.
If you live in a flat, or would like to dispose of your real tree before then you can take it to one of our 12 collection points located across the city. These will be open between 26 December and 3 February.
Warm Spaces and Cost of Living support
We know the festive period can be stressful for many people and this year's added cost of living pressures may be making that worse. If you're looking for help with the cost of living then please do head to our website where we have a directory of services, information and warm, safe spaces for you.
