Hot off the press!

Another win for the School Uniform Swap Shop

Congratulations and a massive thank you once again to all the venues across the district who have taken part in this year’s Swap Shop. We’re delighted to be able to share that the campaign has just won ‘Best Waste Minimisation or Prevention Project’ at the annual LARAC (Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee) Awards.

This is the second award the campaign has picked up and it’s really positive to get this external stamp of approval for a project that we know has been highly valued by local residents. 

Chewing Gum Task Force

Earlier this year, North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) was awarded some grant funding to purchase chewing gum litter removal equipment. The funding is provided by major chewing gum producers and administered by Keep Britain Tidy. We’ll be removing gum from the high streets in the following areas by the end of October: Coalville Measham Ashby Castle Donington. After these areas have been cleaned, the team will be free to use the equipment in other areas, when time and resources allow. Keep an eye out for the quirky signage, which will start popping up on bins, lamp posts and shop windows.

Congratulations and good luck to two Coalville organisations who are flying the flag for North West Leicestershire at VAL’s upcoming Inspiring Community Champions awards’ night on Friday 18 October. Well done to: Marlene Reid Centre, who have been nominated for County Charity of the Year Coalville CAN, who have been nominated for Social Enterprise of the Year Have a fantastic evening and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for you both!

Perinatal Mental Health Support Focus Groups

As part of improving access to Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust - Perinatal Mental Health Support, the team will be running a series of Focus Groups within the community and online. This will be open for mums and partners who have faced challenges to their mental health, which were triggered by pregnancy, birth experience or following childbirth up to one year of the age of your child. Have you been affected or can you help promote this further to others who have?

CYP Mental Health Support

A new ‘At a Glance’ one page summary of mental health support for children and young people (CYP) has been produced. It allows users to identify appropriate services for a given level of need, gives an overview of the offer and information on how to access each service. It covers everything from resilience and wellbeing, to crisis support. You can visit the NHS Trust webpage with a link to the document as well as other resources, including the link to the directory itself.

• Meet the Funders event, Marlene Reid Centre, Coalville. VAL is running two afternoon sessions on Wednesday 30th October. Book your place now. 
• To celebrate World Menopause Day, services across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland are collaborating to host a menopause roadshow countywide next week. If you can’t join in person there is an online session on Friday 18th October. This will provide you with information about the support available from NHS Talking Therapies, The Menopause Awareness Raising Service, Everyone Active, and Active Together.
• People across Leicestershire can take advantage of free bus travel on Saturdays from next weekend (19th October). The Free Fares scheme has no age restriction and will run every Saturday until 30th November. Further details here. 
• The Free Tree Scheme and Hedge Fund are now open for applications from residents in the National Forest area. Applications will close on Sunday 27th October or sooner if demand is high. 
• There is still time to get your application in for the final round of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). The deadline for applications is Friday 25th October. The fund is open to North West Leicestershire parish and town councils, parish meetings, constituted voluntary and community groups, uniformed groups, PTAs and not-for-profit organisations.
