• Bring your own BMX, scooter, skateboard and helmet
• No e-bikes or e-scooters permitted
• Open to ages 9+
• Riders must be competent in skatepark riding and understand skatepark etiquette
• Helmets are mandatory for all wheeled activities
• Wear appropriate footwear — no crocs, sandals or open‑toe shoes

If you’re looking for something different to do with the kids this summer, say hello to Open Doors’ Artist in Residence, Leanne Moden.

Based in the studio on the top floor of the National Civil War Centre, performance poet Leanne has devised a range of free creative activities for families to enjoy, inspired by objects from the museum’s collections.

Stop by the studio any time between 10:00am and 4:00pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays, to take part.

Looking for a fun and creative day out? Head to the National Civil War Centre for Family Saturday on 4 June. Held on the first Saturday of every month, Family Saturdays are packed with hands-on activities, crafts, games and trails designed to bring history to life for all ages!

Families can explore the galleries at their own pace, get stuck into creative challenges, and even meet characters from the past. It’s relaxed, flexible, and perfect for children of different ages to enjoy together.

No booking is needed, and it’s FREE for all Newark and Sherwood residents.

Introduce younger children to history through play at Mini Museum, held at the National Civil War Centre. Designed for under 5s, these friendly sessions offer a fun and engaging way for little ones to explore, imagine, and learn. Your little ones can enjoy toys and themed experiences inspired by the past, with Mini Museum encouraging creativity and curiosity in a relaxed environment.

Sessions run during term time and provide a welcoming space for early years learning through play!

Discover creativity in the heart of the countryside at the North Clifton Arts Festival, returning on Saturday 27 June 2026.

This much-loved non-profit community event showcases an impressive range of local artistic talent. Browse stalls featuring everything from paintings, ceramics and woodwork to jewellery, textiles and more, with pieces to suit every budget.

New for 2026, visitors can also get hands-on with creative workshops, including beginner-friendly macramé, jewellery making and a watercolour taster session. Alongside the arts, enjoy live music, a licensed bar, homemade cakes, local food, family games and an art competition for all ages, making it a perfect day out for families and art lovers alike.

Enjoy live music in a warm and welcoming environment at the Heron Music Café for Wellbeing. Taking place at the Lifespring Centre in New Ollerton (NG22 9PP), these relaxed sessions are designed to be dementia and disability friendly, offering a safe and inclusive space for all.

Drop in to enjoy live performances, connect with others, and take time out in a calm, supportive setting. There’s no need to book and sessions are free to attend.
