District Council proposing to FREEZE it's portion of your Council Tax
The Council remains committed to supporting residents and our budget recommends that the District Council portion of your Council Tax is FROZEN for 2026/27.
This forward-thinking plan aims to protect essential services, invest in our communities, and keep finances resilient amidst national changes.
Key investments include:
🌳 £3.7m for environmental initiatives and parks
🏦 Nearly £1m for cultural sites and events
🏠 Continued support for affordable housing and homelessness prevention
💪 Funding for Disabled Facilities Grants and Warm Homes schemes
🏗️ Major regeneration projects like Yorke Drive, Ollerton town centre and the new Bilsthorpe Community Hub
Your total Council Tax is made up of several different parts, with the District Council element making up one portion.

Here's the best way to report potholes
🚗 We have seen a lot of discussion on social media about potholes recently and we know how important our roads are for everyone.
We want to make sure all potholes are reported. If you spot a pothole, the quickest way to get it fixed is to report it directly to Nottinghamshire County Council. Their online form is easy to use and lets you share the exact location and photos.
Unfortunately, potholes are not our responsibility, they are the responsibility of Nottinghamshire County Council, but we can all report them quickly via the quick link button below.

32 Stodman Street moves closer to completion
Work on transforming the former M&S building at 32 Stodman Street is making great progress with a completion date on the horizon in 2026. As one of the flagship initiatives led by Newark and Sherwood District Council and the Newark Town Board, this project is set to revitalise the town centre. Backed by the UK Government’s ‘Local Regeneration Fund,’ the scheme is making real headway.
Construction, overseen by main contractor Stepnell, is progressing, with the development now taking its final shape at the heart of Newark.
Once completed, the site will deliver 29 high-quality homes, which will now be for sale, offering a vibrant new residential option in the town centre. 1 and 2 bed apartments will be sold off plan by Arkwood Living, with interested parties able to purchase them soon.
Alongside these modern homes, plans include attractive new retail units designed to revitalise Newark’s retail offer for residents and visitors, helping to secure a thriving future for the town centre.

Sherwood Forest Day!
🌳 We had a fantastic time celebrating Sherwood Forest Day on Friday 20 February!
The morning kicked off at Vicar Water Country Park, where councillors and Sherwood MP Michelle Welsh unveiled a new plaque and planted a special tree grown from Major Oak acorns collected by local children.
In the afternoon, celebrations moved to Edwinstowe with local dignitaries, Robin Hood and Maid Marian as the Sherwood Forest Day Proclamation was read.
A brilliant day honouring our legendary landscape!

Recycling is about to get simpler, here’s what you need to know!
From 1 April 2026, recycling in Newark and Sherwood is getting easier, as part of the new Simpler Recycling legislation.
It’ll mean clearer rules, less confusion and more items you can recycle.
We’ll keep you updated on what changes are coming but for now keep using your silver bin as you normally do.
If you’d like guidance on what can currently be recycled in your silver bin, visit our webpage: What goes in your recycling bin.
