Last week, Newark and Sherwood District Council led a powerful Week of Action to tackle fly-tipping and environmental damage at Eakring Road. Working in partnership with Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Via, and local volunteers, the team removed:

✅ 10 tonnes of household waste
✅ 3 tonnes of building waste, repurposed to improve the site
✅ 5 tonnes of metal, including burnt-out appliances
✅ Hazardous gas canisters, safely disposed of

Residents and businesses in Newark and Sherwood are being asked to share their views on Local Government Reorganisation for the first time.

You all use services provided by local authorities - whether it’s having your bins collected, visiting your local park, or applying for your business licence 🏢

Flooding can have a serious impact on homes, families, and communities. Newark and Sherwood District Council is hosting a free Flood Resilience Community Information Event on Thursday 18 September.

Come along to hear from nationally recognised flood expert Mary Long-Dhonau OBE (Flood Mary), explore her interactive Flood Pod, and get practical advice on protecting your property. Experts from Severn Trent, the Environment Agency, emergency services, and the Council’s Public Protection Team will also be available to answer your questions.

The contamination rate in our silver recycling bins has gone down thanks to your amazing efforts!

Some items can be tricky to know what to do with, so this month we are looking at plastic bins and bin liners. These are not currently recyclable in kerbside collections. If you use a bag or a liner to collect your recycling in your home, check out our top tips:

✅ Empty your recyclable contents out of the bag and into the silver bin
✅ Reuse the bag to collect more recyclable materials
✅ Recycle bags and other soft plastics at most local supermarkets if no longer needed

Items should be empty, clean, dry and loose when being recycled.

Rebel Rangers is a free, family-friendly trail across Newark and Sherwood, packed with local legends, challenges and amazing prizes.

Complete mini challenges at seven different local attractions, earning badges as you go. You’ll learn all about important local ‘rebels’ from throughout history, from Robin Hood and Maid Marian to King John and Emily Blagg, alongside others. There’s no app to download or bookings needed, just visit the website or scan the QR code at each location, play and explore at your own pace.

Tenants’ safety matters to us. With Awaab's Law coming into effect from October 2025, we're stepping up to ensure quicker responses and better service. Our new specialist team will focus on damp and mould issues. Click on the below roles to learn more and apply:

We're also providing more training for employees and sharing information with tenants to help everyone spot and manage damp and mould early, to keep our homes healthier for all.
