Are you ready for the County Council by-election?
Following the resignation of County Councillor Desmond Clarke, a request has now been received to fill the vacancy for the Newark West Division of Nottinghamshire County Council by a poll.
A by-election for those living in the Newark West area is due to be held on Thursday 3 July 2025.
You will need to show valid photo ID when voting in person.
Some accepted forms of ID include:
- Passport
- Driving licence (including provisional licence)
- Blue badge
- Concessionary travel cards
- Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
- Biometric Immigration document
- Ministry of Defence identity card
- Certain national insurance cards
Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm. You can find your polling station on your polling card, which is delivered by post before an election.

Our Careline service expands
The District Council Careline service now extends beyond the Newark and Sherwood borders to Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Gedling, and Mansfield. Despite the increased in customers, Careline has maintained exceptional response times, with almost 99% of calls answered within 60 seconds, surpassing the industry standard of 97.5%.
One customer shared their gratitude for the service, recounting an incident where their elderly father, who had a fall, received prompt assistance and was taken to the hospital.

ASB Awareness Week
Next week marks the start of ASB Awareness Week 2025 (30 June – 6 July), a national campaign led by Resolve UK and supported by local councils, police, fire services, and community groups. This year’s theme is #MakingCommunitiesSafer, and we’re proud to be part of the movement.
Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing how you can report anti-social behaviour (ASB), the support available to victims, and the work being done to tackle ASB across Newark and Sherwood. From noise disturbances to vandalism, ASB affects us all - and we all have a role to play in addressing it.

Future First Expo returns this November - exhibitor opportunities now open!
The Future First Careers Expo is back on Thursday 13 November 2025 at the Lady Eastwood Centre, Newark Showground! Organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council in partnership with Lincoln College Group, this inspiring event connects students in Years 11 to 13 with a wide range of career and education opportunities.
With over 1,300 students attending last year and more than 50 exhibitors expected, the Expo is a fantastic chance for young people to explore apprenticeships, university courses, and career paths they may never have considered.

Join us at the 2025 Economic Growth Conference!
Newark and Sherwood District Council is proud to host the 2025 Economic Growth Conference on Thursday 9 October at Southwell Racecourse - and you’re invited!
Running from 8.30am to 2pm, this free event brings together local businesses, industry leaders, and experts for a day of insight, innovation, and inspiration. This year’s theme, 'Resilience and Growth in a Changing World', will explore how businesses can adapt and thrive amid economic and technological change.
Highlights include a keynote from Bev Hurley, CEO of YTKO, who provide business support with a focus on enterprise, and interactive workshops on AI, crisis response, and sustainable growth. The event will be hosted by author and storyteller Laurey Buckland, with plenty of networking opportunities throughout the day.

Celebrating three years of YMCA Village with a family event!
Join the YMCA Community & Activity Village in Newark on Saturday 12 July from 10am to 3pm for a fun-filled day celebrating their third anniversary!
The day will be a family-friendly celebration, with lots of activities from outdoor climbing, nerf battles and football, to creative workshops, sensory play, live music, and bike sessions with Raleigh UK.
All proceeds will go to the YMCA Scholarship Fund, supporting local young people to access YMCA activities they may not otherwise be able to afford.

Coming soon: Newark's first-ever Festival of Food!
Something delicious is cooking in Newark! Launching on Saturday 2 August, the brand-new Festival of Food will serve up a weekend of live cooking demos, free tasters, and talks from local growers - all alongside the beach.
The fun continues weekdays from 4-8 August and 11-15 August with daily events like Make Your Own Picnic, Meat-Free Monday, and health drop-ins.
It’s free, family-friendly, and packed with tasty, healthy, budget-friendly ideas. Stay tuned - more details coming soon!

Free event for teenagers, The Zone, is coming to Newark in July!
Running from 10-13 July, The Zone will be transforming Newark Market Place, as part of Newark Book Festival, into a colourful, custom-built environment designed specifically for 11-18 year-olds. The space is free to access and offers a welcoming mix of creative workshops, games and relaxed hangout zones. What’s more, there will be FREE food (follow us on Instagram for more details!) 🎉

Discover local wildlife this Summer on free guided walks with our park rangers
Enjoy the great outdoors and learn more about local nature on our free monthly guided walks at Sconce and Devon Park and Vicar Water Country Park. Led by our knowledgeable Park Rangers, each walk explores seasonal wildlife, biodiversity, and the unique features of each park.
Walks vary in length each month - short, medium, or long - to suit all abilities and interests.
