The weather may be a little drab since the clocks have changed but in Newark and Sherwood, Spring is definitely in the air! This March, we have taken part in the Great British Spring Clean and phew, it has been a busy month!
Firstly, a huge thank you to all those who have helped us over the last couple of weeks... it was great to be out and about with so many of you!
So, what have we been up to!
- We've launched a public survey on play park developments at Sconce and Devon park.
- We given oak saplings to parish and town Councils, hosted tree planting events in Southwell and Newark all of which have culminated in planting over 18,000 trees in the last few years, smashing our target!
- We've hosted a Day of Action in Balderton collecting 6.76 tonnes of waste, deep cleaned 44 streets and cleared 8 fly tips!
- And much more!
You can find out more about this year’s Great British Spring Clean and our green activities on our website!

University provision comes to Newark!
The Air and Space Institute (ASI) has announced a new strategic partnership with Nottingham Trent University (NTU) which is absolutely amazing news for our younger generation! The partnership will give students at the ASI the chance to complete top-up degrees delivered by NTU after finishing their Level 5 studies.
The ASI is training the next generation of pilots, engineers and aviation workers who can now study for a degree in a world-class facility, with one of the most extensive enrichment programmes in the UK, in Newark! This really is inspirational and we are delighted to be part of this project, alongside Newark Town Board, bringing such incredible opportunities to our residents. Those primary and secondary school students can now achieve their degree dreams in the engineering and aviation industry in Newark.
The ASI launched in 2021 with the first intake studying programmes designed for future civil aviation and military pilots, aircraft engineers and ground crew. Earlier this year the UK’s first astronaut, Helen Sharman launched ASI’s Space and Engineering pathway and work is well underway on the construction of its new £15m HQ in Newark.

Do you have a combi boiler? Optimise the efficiency of your boiler and save money
If you live in Nottinghamshire and would like help optimising your condensing combi boiler Nottingham Energy Partnership have a team of Technical Officers offering FREE home visits to make the change for you.
Optimising the efficiency of your boiler could cut your gas use by an average of 9%. This reduction in gas consumption results in savings of approximately £178 a year by changing a single setting on your gas combi boiler.
The Government's latest strategy is advising households with condensing combi boilers to optimise their boilers by reducing the flow temperature to 60˚C. The ‘flow temperature’ is the temperature your boiler heats the water to before sending it to your radiators. Typically, the flow temperature is set to 80°C which burns more gas than is necessary. This quick change will reduce gas consumption and save money on your gas bill without reducing comfort.
To book your FREE home visit, call Nottingham Energy Partnership on 0115 985 9057 or go to www.bit.ly/BoilerOptimisation. Here you will find more information and step-by-step instructions for making the change to your boiler yourself.

For example, if you, or someone you know, live in a residential care home and pay for some or all of the care, then you should check if you’re eligible for the support.
You might also be eligible if you live in a residential park home, a caravan or boat or your home is in a heat network without an electricity meter or has a communal energy supply. You can find a full list on our website.

Make sure you can vote in the upcoming local elections
The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.
Make sure that when you go to vote at your local polling station you have appropriate photo ID with you. If it’s out of date, but still looks like you, that’s fine so long as it carries your current address.
Keep up to date with the local elections by checking our web pages here: newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/voting/
