Have your say on the future of post-16 SEND travel
Residents across Nottinghamshire are being encouraged to have their say on the future of travel assistance for 16 to 25-year-olds with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The consultation is open to everyone, with families, young people, education professionals and support organisations particularly encouraged to share their views.
Nottinghamshire County Council is reviewing the support available to help eligible young people with SEND travel to school or college under its Post-16 Transport Policy Statement. The review aims to ensure that travel assistance continues to meet young people’s needs as demand grows and the cost of providing the service rises.

Parents encouraged to apply for secondary school admissions
Parents of children who have started in year 6 this September are being reminded to submit their secondary school applications before the application deadline on Saturday 31 October 2026.
The county council is encouraging parents to use all four preferences to give their child the best chance of being offered a preferred school.
If parents only list one school on their application and there are no places available at that school, an alternative offer is made but this is not automatically at the catchment area school or the nearest school to their home.

This follows the ‘pause’ to proceedings announced by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Angela Rayner last month.

Nottinghamshire’s kinship carers celebrated for their important role in children’s lives
Kinship carers in Nottinghamshire were invited to a special lunch event to celebrate the vital role they play for children in the county.
The event, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council’s kinship support service, brought together kinship carers, staff, councillors, and other partners to thank and recognise carers for their commitment.
Kinship carers include grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, former foster carers, and even family friends, who selflessly step in to care for children when their birth parents are unable to. They provide children with a loving, familiar home when they need it most.
