National Adoption Week: 100 years of adoption
This National Adoption Week (19 to 25 October), we're celebrating 100 years of adoption, recognising the difference adoption has made to the lives of children and families across generations.
While we mark this important milestone, there are still children waiting for loving, permanent homes. As part of Adoption East Midlands, we'll be sharing content, raising awareness and highlighting how adoption can change lives.
Could you provide a stable, supportive family for a child?

Celebrating Kinship Carers
Kinship Care Week took place from 5 to 11 October, recognising the important role kinship carers play in children's lives.
Kinship carers include grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, former foster carers, and even family friends, who selflessly step in to care for children when their birth parents are unable to.
We invited kinship carers in Nottinghamshire to a special lunch event to celebrate their impact, connect them with other carers, and highlight the support and guidance available from our kinship support service year round.

Protect your family from illness this winter
Winter is on its way and so is the winter illness season. Flu and Covid 19 spread more easily indoors and can cause serious illness. Getting vaccinated is the best protection.
Children can get a flu vaccine through school, community clinics, participating pharmacies or their GP, depending on their age.
Eligible adults can also get flu and Covid-19 vaccinations to boost protection, as immunity fades and viruses change each year.
A respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination is also available to help protect those most at risk, including babies and older people.

Is your child's Halloween costume safe?
|
Witch, ghost, pumpkin or skeleton - whatever costume you choose for your kids this Halloween, make sure that it meets the correct safety standards:
- Purchase from a reliable source, preferably in the UK.
- Check labels of costumes and other toys including face paints, wigs or masks to make sure they have either a UKCA or CE mark.
- Look out for the words: “This garment has undergone additional safety testing for flammability.” All parts of your costume should be flame retardant.
- Keep yourself and your child away from naked flames.
