More roads resurfaced in Nottinghamshire than any other county as part of record-breaking investment
More major road surface improvements have taken place in Nottinghamshire than anywhere else in the country, as part of a record-breaking funding package to improve the county’s highways.
Nottinghamshire County Council is delivering an eye-catching £182.5 million wide-ranging highways capital programme to fix the network – with repairs and improvements continuing ahead of winter.
This huge investment has enabled the county council to repair tens of thousands of potholes through dedicated repairs and patching; with thousands more defects being addressed as part of wider road resurfacing schemes.

More adopters needed to help shape children's futures across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands
More people across Nottinghamshire are being urged to consider adoption and give children the safe, loving and permanent family they deserve as part of a national campaign.
Nottinghamshire County Council is supporting ‘Every Day is Everything’ – led by Adoption England’s campaign, You Can Adopt – which shines a light on the everyday moments that help children thrive, from bedtime stories and school runs to the reassurance of knowing someone will always be there.
Across Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Derby and Derbyshire, children wait an average of 300 days to be adopted, leaving many without the stability, security and sense of belonging that a permanent family can provide.

Natural flood management scheme offers fresh protection for East Markham
A new scheme designed to slow the flow of water and reduce flood risk has been completed upstream of East Markham.
The £15,000 natural flood management project has been funded and delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Flood Risk Management team, with construction carried out by EMEC Ecology.
Working with a local landowner, the project has brought a previously buried stretch of watercourse back to the surface by removing an old culvert. The water channel has been reshaped with natural bends and curves to slow the flow of water, while new floodplain areas and a low-level earth bund (a gently raised bank made from compacted soil) will help hold more water during periods of heavy rainfall.

New van system at recycling centres from 2 January 2027
Van owners in Nottinghamshire will need to book an appointment to visit recycling centres from 2 January 2027 as part of plans to tackle trade waste abuse at sites across the county.
Vans will also need to re-register and will be limited to six visits a year, with Luton vans, box vans, flat beds and any vehicle exceeding 3.5 tonnes in gross vehicle weight added to the list of prohibited vehicles.
The new rules come as part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s plan to strengthen existing measures to prevent trade waste at recycling centres, reduce costs of disposing of trade waste and improve customer experience for residents.
