Supporting families and strengthening communities
We have over 50 volunteers across our Nottinghamshire family hubs, helping with advice and guidance, group sessions and offering peer support.
Volunteering is a fantastic opportunity to support families, help children thrive and build stronger, more connected communities. It also helps people build valuable work experience and develop new skills.
We appreciate all their hard work and dedication to helping families in Nottinghamshire. To all our volunteers, a big thank you from us!
For more information, including how to get involved, please visit our website or any of our Facebook pages.

Family and parenting support
Family hubs offer parenting programmes, workshops and family appointments for families with children of all ages, from pregnancy right through to young adulthood.
The teams ensure that parents get the right support at the right time by offering information, advice and guidance early, aiming to prevent escalation of needs.
They can offer support with boundaries, behaviour, routines, communication, family relationships and keeping children and young people safe. As well as understanding the different ages and stages of development.

Power in partnership: family hub networks in action
Family hubs demonstrate a strengths-based, collaborative approach by delivering targeted parenting programmes within community settings, including schools.
In Selston, Ashfield, a school identified a small group of parents experiencing similar challenges related to children’s behaviour and submitted individual requests for support.
Two family support practitioners delivered the 1-2-3 Magic programme to six parents, while a class teacher observed sessions and reinforced learning afterwards, contributing to positive, sustained outcomes for families overall.
If you work in a school and are not already connected with your local family hub, please visit our website at the link below for the contact details of your nearest hub.

Talking together: a year of communication
The Year of Communication is a year‑long initiative launched in March 2026 to support children’s speech, language and communication development across Nottingham city and Nottinghamshire county councils.
Delivered in partnership with public health, Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), family hubs and early years partners, it provides monthly, evidence‑based strategies for families and practitioners.
Resources are shared through the Language for Life website, social media and community venues, with positive feedback showing that families are actively using the strategies at home.
