Carers' Week and carers' roadshows
It’s Carers' Week 8 - 14 June which campaigns to raise awareness of caring and recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities.
This Carers' Week theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlighting the impact carer friendly communities can have in making a real and lasting difference to the lives of carers everywhere. The campaign will be brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations taking action to ensure more communities understand, recognise, and empower carers.
Do you care for someone? Nottinghamshire Carers Association organises carers’ roadshows with partners and community organisations across the county. You can find local organisations and community groups, information and support services at these events.
The carers’ roadshows taking place over the next few weeks are:
- Friday 12 June, 10am - 2pm, at Beeston Library, NG9 1AE
- Friday 3 July, 10am - 2pm, at Radford Care Group, NG7 5QE
- Friday 10 July, 10am - 2pm, at New Houghton Community Centre, NG19 8TE
There’s no need to book, just come along.
For details about further roadshows taking place until the end of the year, and to check for any changes, visit the Carers Space Notts website to find out what is happening in your area.

Stay safe around open water
Ahead of Drowning Prevention Week 13 – 20 June, Notts Fire and Rescue has been reminding people about staying safe around open water. Lakes, rivers and reservoirs can look tempting on a very hot day, but entering open water can be deadly:
- even on a hot day, the water can be extremely cold and cause cold water shock
- there may be unexpected currents that can be fatal, even if you are a strong swimmer
- you might not be able to see dangerous obstacles beneath the surface, such as machinery, which can trap or injure you.
If you're thinking about cooling off in open water, please remember it's not worth the risk.

Become a Shared Lives carer
Shared Lives Week, 15 - 21 June, aims to raise awareness about the Shared Lives scheme. Shared Lives supports people to live as independently as possible in the community, by connecting adults with support needs with people who provide a home and care.
Shared Lives Week is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the amazing work that Shared Lives carers do. It’s the perfect time to find out more about being a Shared Lives carer to see if it’s right for you.
If you’re interested in becoming a Shared Lives carer, the main things we’re looking for are people with the passion to care and a bedroom to spare!

Let's break the silence on suicide
We’re proud to support the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire suicide prevention campaign to help break the silence on suicide.
One in five adults will have suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives. The campaign aims to break the stigma surrounding suicide, enable people to speak openly and find the right support. It also seeks to encourage men, people living with autism and those who have been bereaved by suicide to connect with others and share how they are feeling.
If you or someone you know needs help, visit the NottAlone website for advice and links to support services.

Co-production Week
Co-production Week, 29 June - 3 July, champions the power of co-production in shaping better, more inclusive social care. This year’s theme is Care Equity exploring what it means to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or circumstances, has equal access to high-quality social care.
Co-production Week highlights how working in genuine partnership leads to stronger, more responsive services. It brings together people who use services, carers, practitioners and organisations to share learning, inspire good practice, and spark important conversations about the future of care.

Specialist mental health services survey
Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, in partnership with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, has launched a survey on specialist mental health services.
Following feedback from people who used these services, they made recommendations to the Trust for improvements and now want to know if things have got better.
The survey is open to:
- people aged 18 or over who have used, or been waiting to access, specialist mental health services since January 2025
- carers, family members, or supporters of someone in this situation.
Specialist mental health services are adult mental health services provided by specialist teams such as community mental health teams, crisis services, and mental health inpatient wards.
The short survey closes on 31 July 2026 and all response are anonymous.
