Starting the conversation on mental health
Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week.
If you find it hard to know what to say to a young person who is struggling with their mental health, you’re not alone. So many people worry about saying or doing the wrong thing, or not even knowing where to start.
That’s why, for Mental Health Awareness Week, NottAlone released a bonus episode of The NottAlone Podcast, where hosts Dr Maddi and Dr Orlaith discuss how to start those conversations, why talking about mental health matters, and what to do if you’re worried about someone. They also talk about how to approach the conversation with adults, young people and children differently, with helpful insights for parents and carers.
Listen to this special 25-minute episode of The NottAlone Podcast for free now, wherever you get your podcasts, and find support at NottAlone.org.uk.

Inspirational foster carers share their 'fantastic' story during foster care fortnight
Meet Dawn and Lee, two of our dedicated foster carers who have spent over 20 years supporting children and young people.
“I absolutely love fostering,” says Dawn. “I wouldn’t have been doing it for such a long time if it wasn’t such a fantastic thing to do.”
During Foster Care Fortnight, they met Leader of the Council, Mick Barton, and Councillor Rory Green to share their experiences.
Celebrated every May, Foster Care Fortnight shines a light on the difference foster carers make and encourages others to consider fostering.
See how we're shining a light on fostering in this video.

Get walking and wheeling in the Walk Notts Festival
We’re delighted to be working with Active Notts on this year’s Walk Notts Festival, throughout May.
It's a celebration of all the opportunities to walk and wheel around our beautiful county and city, and the chance to try something new with lots of walks for families in the festival programme.
From those exploring wildlife and heritage to family fun walks or wheeling little ones in a buggy, there’s something for the whole family to get involved. As well as festival bingo cards [PDF] with fun activities for you to take part in. We hope you’ve enjoyed taking part in Walk to School Week this week too! |
