Hello and welcome to the March 2025 edition of our Adoption East Midlands newsletter. We’re hoping for some warmer spring weather this month!
In this edition we have information about the recent Anti-racist Framework for Decision-making in Transitioning Children from Minoritized Racial and Ethnic Groups into Transracial Adoptive Families (AFDiT) champions launch. As well as a feature around neurodiversity week and an update about our young people’s events. Enjoy reading.
We continue our AFDiT journey
Naomi Groves and Laura Poxon attended and contributed to the AFDiT champions launch in London recently. They shared the work that AEM and partner local authorities have been doing to embed the framework into our practices and improve the outcomes for children who are transracially adopted.
We also celebrated Naomi receiving the Luther King award at the event for her hard work and commitment.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week
We are proud to be supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 March, 2025.
Many of our adoptive parents have neurodiverse children and this week offers a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate your children’s unique skills and talents, whilst creating a more inclusive and equitable culture that celebrates differences.
We want to ensure every child’s individuality is acknowledged and appreciated. Join us in celebrating the strengths and diversity of our community!

Multi-Disciplinary Team round up
Since receiving funding two years ago, the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) has grown significantly and has positively impacted over 300 children.
We’ve received excellent feedback, highlighting the importance of the service.
An adoptive parent said, “The advice and support I was given was invaluable, and gave me more knowledge and the mental strength to work with the school.”
Feedback like this demonstrates the positive impact the MDT continues to have on our families, providing essential support and fostering better outcomes for our children.
