Applications for September 2025 places are now open for children living in Nottinghamshire.  If your child turns 5 between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026 or you have a child in year 2 in an infant school you can apply now.

Parents have until Wednesday, 15 January 2025, to submit their on-time applications for their child’s first school (reception) or transfer from infant to junior or primary school. 

Nottinghamshire County Council is encouraging parents to make sure they understand how school applications are considered, and whether their child would have a good chance of being offered a place at one of their preferred schools, before submitting their applications.

The latest funding round to support Notts’ budding Olympians, Paralympians and Special Olympians is open from 11 November.

The £50,000 Talented Athletes Fund aims to support local athletes with training and equipment costs to ultimately help them follow in the footsteps of sport stars such as Mansfield’s Charlotte Henshaw MBE. She became British paracanoeing’s first-ever double Paralympic champion in Paris this year and previously received support from the Talented Athletes Fund.

Nottinghamshire County Council has continued its commitment to support more up-and-coming athletes to recognise their potential in their chosen sport, particularly those competing in disability/parasports who may require expensive adapted equipment, clothing, or have higher transport costs.

A dynamic partnership spearheaded by Nottinghamshire County Council has helped to deliver 3,511 community-boosting projects and £394 million worth of investment since its ground-breaking launch.

60% of electric blankets tested at recent safety events in the county were found to be unsafe, prompting an appeal to Nottinghamshire residents to check their blankets for signs of wear.

A total of 282 electric blankets were tested at three events in Cotgrave, Newark and Retford, with the age being the biggest factor in the failure of 170 of these.

The events were organised by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Trading Standards team in partnership with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) and residents whose blanket failed the testing were given a brand new replacement electric blanket for free.

‘Keep elderly and disabled bus passengers in mind’ is the message being given to motorists in Nottinghamshire by the county council to raise awareness of the impacts of parking at bus stops.

Disabled passengers and those with limited mobility rely on raised bus stops for step free access, however parking at bus stops across the county remains an issue meaning that these passengers often cannot board or alight the bus in their preferred location.

Nottinghamshire County Council will now install 10 new enforcement cameras at sites across the county to help to prevent bus stop parking in known hotspots, following the success of five cameras installed in September 2023.

A senior Nottinghamshire county councillor has welcomed the news that the Government is committed to funding school building projects across the country.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves MP, made the spending pledge to invest £1.4 billion as part of the school rebuilding programme ahead of her first Budget last week.

Her announcement comes after County Council Leader, Councillor Ben Bradley, and Councillor Sam Smith, Cabinet Member for Education & SEND, wrote to Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson MP, seeking assurances that Labour would honour the previous Government’s pledge to help fund the projects.
