Please note that this is the latest version of the newsletter (November 2024).
The board is developing an itinerary for the upcoming Safeguarding Adults Week, based on the Ann Craft Trust themes for 2024. Throughout the week, we aim to explore how the NSAB collaborates as a partnership to embed professional curiosity, enhance our listening skills, establish professional boundaries, recognise exploitation, and learn from these experiences as an organisation. These themes will encourage the board to consider how we can improve collaboration with partner agencies to foster safer cultures within our workplaces and communities.
Below is a copy of the board's Safeguarding Adults Week Planner and some links provided by the Ann Craft Trust to initiate vital conversations in the lead-up to the week.

Monday 18 November Professional Curiosity
Understanding 'Professional Curiosity' is key. It is a critical practice mindset and communication skill that involves exploring and understanding situations by asking questions and maintaining an open mind. It is about managing risk and safety, knowing when to act, and not making assumptions. In safeguarding, professional curiosity is essential for keeping children and adults safe. It involves using skills and knowledge to recognise when further investigation is needed, looking, listening, asking direct questions, and holding difficult conversations.
These online seven minute briefings are designed to provide a short and concise overview a safeguarding topic. These sessions are aimed at non-social care professionals who still have a large part to play in preventing and reporting abuse and neglect in Nottinghamshire.
We look forward to your attendance to contribute and reflect on the briefing.

Tuesday 19 November
NSAB partnership event Professional Curiosity
The partnership event is intended for professionals and will continue the focus on professional curiosity. This has been a key theme identified in recent safeguarding adult reviews and we are excited to welcome Dr Ana Anka (University of East Anglia) to provide insights into the academic understanding of this topic. Further guest presenters from the Clinical teams at Doncaster Bassetlaw Hospital Trust will also look at case examples of effective use of professional curiosity to provide better outcomes to high intensity users in A&E. The event will conclude with Equation providing learning about professional curiosity from recent Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews.
In the afternoon, there will be a special seven minute briefing on Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) presented by the board.
MSP is an approach to safeguarding adults which supports a person-centred, outcome-focus to empower people in the safeguarding intervention. Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your safeguarding knowledge and practices! For more supportive information to enable involvement, please refer to the documents below:

A presentation followed by a seven minute briefing will be provided by the NSAB, focusing on Transitional safeguarding with people moving from children’s services to adults. It describes current practices and thinking to enable reflection by professionals. Transitional safeguarding is more than just better transition planning; it requires a wholly needs-led and personalised understanding and approach to transition.
