On World Mental Health Day a brand-new website launched to help support residents of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire with their mental health.

The aptly named ‘NottAlone’ aims to connect local people with free mental health support services, as well as offering advice and guidance on a range of mental health topics.

World Mental Health Day was chosen as the date to officially launch the new website NottAlone.org.uk - with a special celebration event at the Central Library in Nottingham.

Groups and charities across the county are being encouraged to apply for the latest round of community-improving grants. These funds will help towards boosting local facilities, helping with essential running costs as well as supporting people who have fled Ukraine and settled in Nottinghamshire.

The latest round of Nottinghamshire County Council's Local Communities Fund (LCF) is now open for applicants until Friday 8 November 2024. Eligible groups can apply for funding which demonstrate that their projects will help communities live healthier and more independent lives.

Get your discounted group bus ticket this October half term! 

It’s back – a group bus ticket discount scheme for October half term. The scheme offers up to a third off selected group bus tickets across the city and county. Bus passengers can travel for less as a group with operators including CT4N, Nottingham City Transport (NCT), Stagecoach East Midlands, trentbarton and Central Connect.

Discounts to commuter tickets purchased through employers coming soon!

Commuters in Greater Nottingham and Nottinghamshire who purchase annual bus and tram passes through their employers will soon benefit from a discount thanks to the county and city councils. Employers will be able to offer staff a 20% discount on the cost of annual commuter bus and tram passes - products that are already great value for money. In Greater Nottingham, annual passes sold to employers by all the local bus operators, including the Robin Hood 12-month season card will be discounted from 1 November 2024.

Financial support will be on its way before Christmas to thousands of eligible households to help cover the costs of food and energy bills this winter.

This latest, one-off winter payment is due to be paid to more than 32,000 households who need help the most.

Nottinghamshire County Council continues to work with district and borough councils to help ease some of the financial worries for residents who are struggling to make ends meet, thanks to phase six of the Government’s £5.6 million Household Support Fund (HSF) which runs between 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025.

Those who will continue to benefit from this support include families with children eligible for Free School Meals or equivalent, those in receipt of Pension Credit, as well as other households and individuals who have been identified by social workers in need of financial support.

Residents in Nottinghamshire are throwing away the equivalent of around 57 million recyclable cans and newspapers every year. This week is Recycle Week and this year the focus is on rescuing recyclable items from the general waste bin.

Research commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council and Veolia has revealed that 7% of the rubbish found in general household waste bins can in fact be recycled in Nottinghamshire in the kerbside recycling bin, so residents are now being urged to check before they chuck and rescue their lost recyclables.

Adoption East Midlands and Nottinghamshire County Council are proud to support the nationwide campaign #NationalAdoptionWeek.

To mark National Adoption Week, a new film from You Can Adopt features adoptive families on board a train, reflecting on their journeys and the people who’ve been there along the way.

The campaign shows adopters that they are not alone by highlighting the ‘village’ that makes every journey unique - from social workers and foster carers, to birth families and grandparents.
