Storm Henk causes flooding across Nottinghamshire
A number of communities across Nottinghamshire have experienced flooding following Storm Henk.
River levels remain high across the county and some rivers are yet to peak so it's important to be flood aware and know how to prepare for possible flooding in your area.
We've got all the key advice in one place including what to do during a flood, how to check flood alerts and warnings, driving safely and looking after your mental health.
How can I prepare for a flood?
Knowing how to prepare yourself for a flood can save you time should flooding occur in your area.
One of the best ways to prepare is to check flood alerts and warnings which are in place for your area.
It can be difficult to know what to do if a flood alert or warning is put in place for your area, but it doesn't have to be. Following the prepare, act, survive advice is your guide to what to do should a flood occur and how to keep yourself and your property safe.
...and what if my property is flooding?
In the event of a flood, you should focus on the safety of you and your family and make sure to:
- cooperate with the emergency services if they tell you to evacuate during flooding,
- be prepared to act quickly and get yourself to safety.
- avoid walking or driving through flood water, as it may conceal hidden dangers.

I'm travelling, how can I stay safe?
Heavy rain from Storm Henk and rising river levels have meant that a number of roads across Nottinghamshire are closed due to flooding.
Our teams are continuing to assess the situation and so if you are travelling, it's a good idea to keep an eye on our disruption website page for information on road closures.
|
...and while we're talking about roads...
We know that closing roads has an impact on motorists but we cannot stress enough that when we close roads due to flooding, we are doing this for YOUR safety.
Every time the county experiences flooding, we hear reports of vehicles ignoring road closure signs and driving through flood water. This not only endangers lives but it also means added pressure on emergency services who may be called out should you become stuck in the waters.
If you come across a road closure sign, please do NOT ignore it and instead find an alternative route.
It may surprise you to hear that just 30cm of flowing water is enough to move a vehicle, so please don't take the risk.
