Summer is here! In a few weeks schools will be breaking up and we know that brings a season full of excitement and, at times, anxiety. This month we’ve packed in as much as we can about what’s happening across the East Midlands to help keep you and the children entertained this summer, as well as a few exciting developments in the service.
A survival guide for summer
To help you get through the upcoming school summer holidays, we have put together a few helpful tips and resources. This includes advice from Adoption UK and other organisations, as well as links to a variety of events taking place in the East Midlands for families to enjoy over the holidays.

More fun events for young people
This summer we have even more fun days out planned for our children and families. Many of the events are now fully booked but please visit the link below to find events nearby and check availability.
If you've already booked a place, please confirm your attendance and return the consent form to Adoption East Midlands as some events have a waiting list and we'd love to be able to offer your place to someone else if your child can no longer attend.

An exciting new project for AEM
We're thrilled to announce a new research project that aims to identify the characteristics of people who adopt children who wait the longest to find a permanent home.
We will be working with technology company Faculty, and using its expertise in artificial intelligence to review records of successful adoptions to build a picture that will hopefully identify potential placements for children across the East Midlands.

Introducing our new family support workers
We are so excited to welcome our new team members; Lucy, Simon, Lydia and Darren.
Lucy and Darren previously worked together in the Contact Service, supporting family time between looked after children and their birth families. Lucy loves holidays and Darren enjoys watching sport, especially football.
Simon previously worked in residential care and is an Arsenal fan with a love for board games. Lydia has also worked with children and families, and in her spare time she enjoys Parkrun, watching football and family days out.

Positive change for children waiting the longest
Here at AEM, we’re proud to be working alongside a range of partner organisations to contribute to positive change for the children and families we support.
Recently we’ve been involved in a project called 'Just Home' with Staff College to challenge the bleak statistics surrounding how over-represented black children are in the care system. We’re also working with the University of Sussex on the creation and piloting of a decision-making tool for use when considering interracial adoptive placements.
Watch this space for more information on how you can get involved.
