Hello and welcome to the June edition of fostering news for 2023.
The recruitment team has had a busy couple of weeks with Foster Care Fortnight and, of course, Fostering’s Got Talent.
Summer is well under way, in fact we will soon have the longest day of the year. June is usually full of exams for our children and young people so we hope it is all going ok with not too much stress.
As always we would love to hear what you and the kids get up to when you are managing to have downtime together or you have tried something different. We are proud of all of you and your fostering families so we want to shout about it on our @FosterNotts Facebook page if we can.
Before you get on with your day, take a quick coffee break and check out this month’s newsletter where you will find news about what happened at Fostering’s Got Talent, together with the latest employability briefings from the achievement service, an update about the foster carer’s survey and news about this year’s conference.
Thanks for reading
Fostering's Got Talent
Well, what can we say? A couple of weeks ago on a Wednesday night we all had a smashing time at the Fostering’s Got Talent Show.
In the end we had 8 acts varying from singing to gymnastics and music to poetry recitals. Each and every one of them had brilliant talent and showed courage and star qualities to get up on stage and show us their talents.
Our winner was entering the show for the first time and gave a super rendition of the Abba favourite Mamma Mia! A week later ,Aliza and her fostering family had an exciting day when they went to the live semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent in London, an amazing day from their ‘first time on a train adventure’ to the highlight of Mr Blobby replacing Simon Cowell. Hearing this was priceless and makes us happy.
A big thanks to all of the children and their fostering families, those of you who managed to get along to watch the show and celebrate the talent, our colleagues who helped things go smoothly and not forgetting Ty Yousaf for introducing the night, Matt Wesson for compering, and Cllrs Taylor and Anderson for helping us with prize giving. Bring on next year!

Foster carers' survey
Most of you will hopefully have taken the opportunity to share your views in this year’s foster carers' survey.
This is your chance to have your say about what is going well or what could be done better, so if you have not yet given your input please do get in touch with your supervising social worker as it is not too late.
Your views are important to us. We are hoping to have as many responses as possible to inform us and will be sharing the results with you all soon!

Did you know? Timpson Holidays for Foster Families
Did you know that you can apply to the Alex Timpson Trust for a free holiday for your fostering family?
The Alex Timpson Trust will provide FREE holidays for foster families in holiday homes up and down the country. There is an application process and you are able to nominate your own family.
We know of at least one of our own Nottinghamshire fostering families has previously been successful in their bid so you never know unless you try!
We believe applications for this summer may now be closed but we love to plan ahead, so why not think about next summer?
